Rogers Communications Q3 net income slightly down

Rogers Communications has reported a net income of C$485 million, or C$0.79 per share, for the third quarter ended September 30, 2009, a 2% decrease, compared to C$495 million, or C$0.78 per share, in the third quarter of 2008.
For the third quarter of 2009, total revenues were C$3.04 billion, a 2% increase, compared to C$2.98 billion in the same quarter of 2008.
For the first nine months ended September 30, 2009, total revenues were C$8.7 billion, a 3% increase, compared to C$8.4 billion in the same period of 2008. Net income was C$1.17 billion, or C$1.86 per share, a 2% increase, compared to C$1.14 billion, or C$1.79 per share, in the same period of 2008.
Nadir Mohamed, president and CEO of Rogers Communications, said: "Our third quarter results represent a healthy balance of growth, cost control and margin expansion, and double-digit increases in cash flow generation and cash returns to shareholders.
"We also further solidified our network leadership positions with the launch of our innovative HSPA+ 21Mbps wireless data and 50Mbps DOCSIS three high speed internet services, both the fastest available in our markets."
