Citing patent infringement of its Lipitor drug, Pfizer Philippines has filed a lawsuit against Philippines-based United Laboratories.
Earlier, United Laboratories launched a generic version of the anti-hypertensive drug under the brand Avamax, which prompted Pfizer to file a patent infringement lawsuit against the company.
Pfizer contended that its Lipitor patent remains validated until the expiration of its patents in 2012.
United Laboratories, however, refuted Pfizer's patent claims and said that Pfizer's Lipitor patents are weak and frivolous. In addition, the company also filed a case before the Intellectual Property of the Philippines for the cancellation of Pfizer's Lipitor patent.
