Connecticut Technology Council Recognizes UHY Tech Top 40 Winners

The Connecticut Technology Council and the accounting firm UHY feted the 40 fastest growing technology companies in Connecticut last night at the Chevrolet Theater in Wallingford.

The list of winning companies included well known brands and public companies as Priceline.com and Amphenol Corp., also included companies gaining global prominence in their technology markets such as FuelCell Energy and Defibtech.

The evening's biggest announcement came at the end of the awards program when Alexion Pharmaceuticals was named Connecticut's fastest growing technology company in 2009. Its revenue grew at the rate of 17,371 percent over the last four years. The Cheshire company has achieved a significant market presence with its Soliris, a product approved for the treatment of patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemogolbinuria (PNH)1, a rare, but progressive and life-threatening disease characterized by the excessive destruction of red blood cells.

The Council also announced the six companies whose revenue put them at the top in their technology category:

In Advanced Manufacturing, Bolt Technology was the winning company. It makes equipment used in offshore seismic exploration for oil and gas. Stamford's Clean Diesel Technologies, the "green company" winner, captured the prize in the Energy/Environmental Technologies category. In Life Sciences the winner was the aforementioned Alexion Pharmaceuticals. In the New Media/Internet/Telecom technology category it was another Stamford company, M2 Media Group. The Stamford-based company designs and operates magazine marketing and loyalty programs in partnership with top consumer brands and the world's largest magazine publishers. Stamford is also home to the software category winner, L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc. The company, which only arrived in Stamford in 2006, has become the global identity management provider. In the final category of IT Services, Fandotech, was the winner. Based in Manchester, Fandotech provides data center facilities and managed network services.

The list of winning companies was compiled on the basis of revenue growth over the last four years. Companies considered for this recognition were required to have at least $50,000 in revenue in the first year and $3M in revenue in the fourth year, with some of the public companies winning this year exceeding $1Billion in revenue. The list is made up primarily of privately held companies, but does include twelve public companies.

The winning companies are grouped into six technology verticals: Software, IT Services, Life Sciences, Advanced Manufacturing, New Media/Internet/Telecom and Energy Environmental Technologies. Geographically the companies are fairly evenly distributed across the state.

Over 350 attendees attended the Wallingford event. The event was also webcast using a VBrick video appliance. VBrick Systems is one of the 2009 winners.

This year's sponsors include CNA Insurance, the law firm of Pullman & Comley, Oracle Corp., Webster Bank, Connecticut Innovations, McLaughlin, DelVecchio & Casey, Robert Half Technology and Wellstone Insurance.
