Schaeffer's Daily Option Blog: Sentiment Shifts Toward Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) as Call Trading Soars

Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) was the focus of some brisk call trading on Thursday, as more than 48,100 call contracts crossed the tape in the front three months of options. This volume is nearly four times the equity's average daily trading volume of 12,600 contracts.
Drilling down on the action, we find that the November 5 call added nearly 4,000 new positions, lifting its open interest up to 8,938 contracts. Meanwhile, the December 4 call added 6,000 new positions to put its open interest at 6,144 contracts, and the December 5 call added 9,000 new positions to boost its open interest up to 11,600 contracts. Finally, the January 2010 4 call added 5,000 new positions to push its open interest up to 9,231 contracts, while the January 2010 5 call added 7,500 new positions to push its open interest up to 40,766 contracts.
