NTT America Announces Appointment of Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

NTT America, Inc., a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com) and a Tier-1 global IP network services provider, today announced the appointment of Doug Junkins as the company's Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Mr. Junkins will succeed Kazuhiro Gomi who was named COO of NTT America in June of 2009.

In his new role, Mr. Junkins will be responsible for the company's technology procurement strategy and vendor selection, industry relations and standardization efforts, and overall product portfolio coordination across both the Global IP Network and Enterprise Solutions business units of NTT America. In addition, Mr. Junkins will continue to serve as vice president of IP development for the Global IP Network business unit, overseeing network architecture, tool development and peering relations.

"Doug has been at the core of our technology efforts and assessments for well over a decade," said Kazuhiro Gomi, COO, NTT America. "The wealth of experience that he brings to the table ensures that NTT America has the best leadership to drive the growth of our business in the upcoming years."

"I look forward to the challenges brought on by this position," said Doug Junkins, CTO of NTT America. "NTT Communications is one of the world's foremost information communications technology (ICT) providers, and maintaining a strong technology lead in expansion of the NTT Communications Global IP Network, deployment of 100GigE and IPv6, expanding our Tier-3 class datacenters, as well as continuing to make other high quality network investments, is instrumental to our future success."

Mr. Junkins transitioned to a leadership role at NTT America when the global IP network business was migrated into NTT America from Verio, which was acquired by NTT Communications in August of 2000. During his time with Verio, Mr. Junkins served as the vice president of IP engineering where he was responsible for building Verio's U.S. and European backbone network and integrating the engineering and operations of 54 individual ISPs acquired by Verio. Prior to joining Verio, Mr. Junkins was a senior network engineer for NorthWestNet in Seattle where he was responsible for the network engineering of their regional IP network.

Mr. Junkins frequently speaks at leading industry events, such as the Ethernet Expo Americas 2009 held this week in New York and the upcoming 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
