Volkswagen Polo Cup comes to India

, October 26, 2009 (PTI) - A popular fixture on the German motorsports calendar, the Volkswagen Polo Cup is all set to come to India next year after Volkswagen India signed a letter of intent with JK Tyres to organise the event.

The German automobile-manufacturing giant's India unit will launch its Polo model in India as a prelude to the touring car-racing event scheduled next year.

The Polo Cup is a part of the German DTM series, which is a premium touring car-racing event here.

"We bring a concept that has been working very well elsewhere to India and we are confident that Volkswagen India Polo Cup would be a huge success," Volkswagen's Board of Management member Dr Jochem Heizmann said here Sunday.

"I am confident that we can raise motorsports in India to a very high level," he added.

Although the scheduling and drivers for the event are yet to be worked out, Heizmann said the cars to be used would be manufactured in India by Volkswagen's Pune factory.
