Vodafone Romania has started an SMS-based awareness campaign to inform its mobile users about Vodafone hoax electronic commercial messages received on their phones. All the operator's subscribers have been sent a message that advised them not to provide other parties their private information such as numerical personal codes, Vodafone top-up pins or passwords when they are asked to do so through Vodafone hoax messages received on their phones. Users have been urged to signal the fraud attempt at *222. A web site section available at www.vodafone.ro/frauda also provides users with information related to the same issue. The operator reminded customers that all its messages include visual signs specific to the company's image. At the same time, users have been told that, unlike fraudulent messages, commercial messages coming from Vodafone direct users to the operator's communication or sales channels.
