Paris, Nov 04, 2009 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --
Company: Alcatel-Lucent (ALU)
Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext and NYSE:ALU) today announced that KT a major service provider in Korea, has activated a fourth carrier in its W-CDMA network. Thanks to the scalable network architecture deployed by Alcatel-Lucent and LG-Nortel, KT is now able to handle more traffic and end-users with the same number of Node Bs and provide the same quality of service. The 4th carrier was activated in more than 700 sites with smooth software upgrade.
'By launching Alcatel-Lucent's fourth W-CDMA carrier, we are now able to serve our fast growing traffic demand effectively with secured network stability. We are also grateful that there is zero impact on our end users throughout the implementation,' said JS Koh, Senior Vice President, KT Mobile R&D Laboratory.
'The number of KT's W-CDMA subscribers has multiplied four fold over the last two years reaching over 10 million users. As an entrusted partner of KT, this project further demonstrates Alcatel-Lucent's leadership in advanced wireless technology and our capabilities to support fast growing networks. We are committed to our customers providing best of breed wireless solutions catering to the growing demand in Korea,' said Sean Dolan, president of Alcatel-Lucent's activities in Asia-Pacific.
Alcatel-Lucent's W-CDMA networks offer capacity licensing that enables operators to activate additional carriers simply by software upgrade where ever required. This flexible option enables mobile operators to reduce their carbon footprint while adapting their CAPEX to their subscriber base when facing voice and data traffic surge on their network.
Alcatel-Lucent is a leading player in the wireless infrastructure market having deployed 350 commercial wireless networks worldwide, including more than 56 W-CDMA customers in 37 countries. Alcatel-Lucent's networks architecture is based on Alcatel-Lucent unique converged radio access network (RAN) strategy allowing scaling of W-CDMA networks and smooth evolution to LTE.
