Darden Restaurants appoints new board member

US-based Darden Restaurants has appointed Victoria Harker to the company's board of directors.

Ms Harker is the executive vice president and CFO of The AES Corporation, a US-based power company. She has served as executive vice president and CFO for AES since 2006.

Before joining AES, Ms Harker served as the acting CFO and treasurer of MCI from November 2002 through January 2006, and CFO of MCI Group, a unit of World Com, from 1998 to 2002.

Clarence Otis, chairman and CEO of Darden, said: "Victoria Harker brings a wealth of leadership experience and a diverse perspective to our board of directors. Her expertise in all aspects of financial management and corporate strategy will be tremendous assets to our board and to our company as we continue to grow our portfolio of brands."
