Jafza's commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives received pan-Arab recognition when it was named second runner up at the Arabia Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2009 instituted by Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), the Dubai-based voluntary, non-governmental organisation.
The flagship free zone under Economic Zones World was chosen for the honour in the Medium Company category (having 100-499 employees) from among 57 companies from the GCC, Levant and North Africa regions. The awards were presented at a grand ceremony held in Dubai, recently.
EEG instituted the awards to honour organisations in the Arab region that demonstrate outstanding leadership and commitment to corporate sustainability and to promote CSR as an essential element of a successful business model.
The award recognised Jafza's commitment to its CSR framework, which is developed to provide sustainable industrial and logistics infrastructure solutions with key focus on environment, corporate governance, excellence, quality and community involvement. The free zone's green initiatives, including the recently launched Green Warehouse project, the energy audit programme that aims at generating energy from waste, recycling, and increasing awareness, also came up for special mention.
Pat McGillycuddy, Chief Operating Officer, Economic Zones World, commenting on the recognition said: "Our corporate policies have always been sustainability-oriented. It is reflected in the way Jafza has been delivering consistently positive results to support Dubai's growth. This award strengthens our resolve to work harder and achieve even better results." Arabia CSR Awards, which was launched in 2008, is the latest initiative by EEG to promote corporate commitment to the community and environment. It is supported by United Nations Global Compact.
Established in 1991, EEG campaigns for environment protection through education, action programmes and community involvement. It is the first NGO in the world to get the ISO 14001 certification for its environment management system.
In addition to Jafza, currently one of the world's fastest growing free zones, Economic Zones World's portfolio also includes Gazeley, a leading provider of sustainable logistics and industrial space; TechnoPark, a research driven business and industrial park; and Dubai Auto Zone, a comprehensive market place for the Auto industry.
