The German telecoms market will fall by 3.6 percent to around EUR 62 billion in 2009, mainly due to lower end user prices, according to a new study by Dialog Consult for industry trade group VATM. Fixed-line revenues will reach EUR 34.2 billion, down by EUR 1.1 billion from 2008, with mobile revenues down EUR 1.8 billion to EUR 23.6 billion. Investment in network equipment by telecoms companies will reach around EUR 5.9 billion in 2009, down from EUR 6.5 billion in 2008. Deutsche Telekom will continue to dominate the fixed-line market with a 58 percent share. Strong customer growth will allow alternative fixed-line operators to boost their revenues by around 2.9 percent or EUR 0.4 billion, while cable operators will boost their revenues by EUR 0.6 billion. The total number of broadband connections will reach 24.9 million by end-2009, up 9.2 percent year-on-year. Total net broadband additions are expected to reach 2.1 million new customers in 2009, down by one million from net customer growth registered in 2008.
