Monsanto Opens Biotechnology R&D Center in China

Monsanto Company (NYSE: MON) is about to open a biotechnology R&D center in Beijing, China, as it looks to speed up a business expansion in one of the biggest agricultural countries in the world.

The R&D center, set up to technologically back up the Monsanto products in China, is expected to launch primary research on bioinfomatics and genomics, cooperate with scientific research institutions in China, and share the research findings with other Monsanto R&D centers in the US, Europe, Brazil, and India, according to the US-based agricultural product heavyweight.

As many as 150 talents will be hired from China and a local management team will be set up for the R&D center, said the recently-appointed president for Monsanto China, noting that the Beijing Monsanto R&D center will be built into a platform that facilitate the exchange of advanced biotechnology and new agricultural products between China and other countries.
