Company: Verizon Communications (VZ)
US wireless communications services provider Verizon Wireless announced on Thursday that the company is investing in Waldo County, Maine to stay ahead of rising demand for wireless voice, 3G multimedia and Internet access.
The investment induces the activation of a new cell site that provides increased wireless voice and 3G data coverage along Route 52, Ryan Road and Beech Hill Road in western Northport, as well as surrounding areas of Northport, Belfast, Belmont and Lincolnville.
It also provides expanded 3G data coverage in Northport.
Verizon has reportedly invested over USD2.5bn into its New England network over the past nine years, including over USD105m during the first six months of 2009. As a result of this investment all Verizon Wireless cell sites in New England provide 3G wireless data connectivity.
Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE:VOD )(LSE: VOD).
