Lenovo Turned a Profit in July-to-September

Lenovo Group Ltd. (SEHK: 0992) earned USD 53.082 million profit attributable to the company's equity holders for the three months ended September 30, 2009, the Chinese computer leader announced in its unaudited financial results on November 5.

Gross profit slipped to USD 433.457 million from USD 568.782 million in the period of the prior year. Operating profit jumped to USD 78.408 million from USD 35.335 million. Sales slid to USD 4.099 billion from USD 4.326 billion. Basic earnings per share attributable to the company's equity holders leaped to USD 0.59 from USD 0.27.

The Chinese personal computer market accounted for 49% of the company's total sales in the six months ended September 30, 2009. It further cemented its market leadership with a 22% rise year on year in unit shipments. Its market share inched up 0.1 percentage point to 29.0%, citing preliminary industry estimates.
