EcoDog's Fido Home Energy Monitoring Systems, a technology that provides room-by-room visibility of where energy dollars are spent in the home, won the title at the annual GadgetFest, an event organized by CommNexus on November 3 in San Diego.
EcoDog captured both the Judges' vote with the top score and the overall crowd vote with the debut of Fido - Your Home Energy Watchdog, winning the 2009 GadgetFest Greatest Gadget award. By capturing the GadgetFest Gadget crown EcoDog joins a list of winners that includes recent titlists Google's GrandCentral, Direct TV's Slingbox and the Motorola Q phone amongst others.
Verizon Wireless finished second presenting their Droid phone, set for release this Friday, November 6.
"All the companies showed off what's new and next in the world of mobile communications, demonstrating that innovation, imagination and new ideas are still coming from the mobile industry every day," said CommNexus CEO Rory Moore.
The list of judges included Technology Correspondent for San Diego 6 TV, Steve Kovsky and Vice President of GSMA Mobile Innovation, Andy McGuire. The event was co-hosted and moderated by KenRadio's Ken Rutkowski and Andy Abramson.
"It's an honor to receive the Greatest Gadget award. We were up against great companies with very cool products. This win validates how our technology solves problems that people face everyday. We're excited that our Fido home energy-monitoring system took first-place honors, and we look forward to developing more products to reduce energy consumption and carbon footprints, while saving money," said Ron Pitt, EcoDog's CEO.
In addition to EcoDog and Verizon Wireless, other companies participating included Nokia, SilverPlus, ClimateMinder, FLO TV, and TelCentris.
Every year, CommNexus San Diego, a network of communications companies in the San Diego region, challenges tech companies within and beyond the San Diego region to enter their latest technologies into GadgetFest and compete for the coveted title of "Greatest Gadget."
