UPMC Turns on Verdiem to Reduce PC Energy Consumption by up to 50 Percent
SEATTLE, Nov 16, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Verdiem, the leader in enterprise PC power management software, today announced that the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is deploying Verdiem's SURVEYOR(TM) on more than 30,000 PCs across the health system's network. Using Verdiem's PC power management solution, UPMC expects to reduce PC power consumption by 50 percent, resulting in more than $1 million in annual savings. UPMC, in partnership with Duquesne Light Company, deployed Verdiem's SURVEYOR as part of the utility's energy efficiency and demand response initiatives designed to comply with Pennsylvania State Act 129, which requires Pennsylvania electric distribution companies to cut power consumption in their territories by 1 percent by 2011 and 3 percent in 2013.
"As an $8 billion integrated global health enterprise with more than 50,000 employees, UPMC is one of the leading nonprofit healthcare systems in the Unites States and is also blazing a path in sustainability and green-IT," said Brett Goodwin, Vice President of Marketing, Verdiem. "We're thrilled to be working with UPMC and pleased to be helping them achieve tangible energy cost reductions with Verdiem's PC Power Management Solution."
"Working with Verdiem, we are able to centrally manage and measure our PC energy consumption without interfering with end-user productivity, desktop maintenance or upgrades, making this green-IT initiative an easy and highly effective way to deliver environmental stewardship across our organization," said John Krolicki, vice president of facilities and support services at UPMC. "This energy conservation project, which covers about two-thirds of our PCs system wide, is just one more example of our wide-ranging commitment to protecting the environment for the benefit of our patients, staff and communities."
