American Angus Association Names Digital Angel's Destron Fearing Unit as Manufacturer of Visual and Electronic Tags

Digital Angel, a technology company in the field of animal identification and emergency identification solutions, announced that its Destron Fearing unit has been chosen by the American Angus Association as the exclusive manufacturer of visual and electronic identification tags for its AngusSource program.

AngusSource is the American Angus Association's USDA Process Verified Program (PVP) for Angus-sired calves that documents source, group age and a minimum of 50 percent Angus genetics. A second tier of the AngusSource PVP called Gateway verifies source and group age only.

Destron Fearing will manufacture AngusSource and Gateway program-compliant tags, offering producers a shorter turnaround time on tag orders, increased customization capabilities and a new radio frequency identification (RFID) option. Previously, the only program-compliant tag offered by AngusSource and Gateway was a visual tag.

"Quicker delivery, the ability to customize the back of the tag, and an RFID program-compliant tag - these are things our customers have been asking for," said Sara Snider, AngusSource director. The American Angus Association is a beef registry association with over 30,000 adult and junior members. Its goal is to serve the beef cattle industry, and increase the production of beef.

Destron Fearing is the Animal Identification segment of Digital Angel. Destron Fearing develops, manufactures and markets electronic radio frequency and visual identification devices for the companion animal, fish and wildlife and livestock markets.
