Fujitsu Ltd. (TSE:6702) on Friday signed a contract to open a data center in China's Guangdong Province.
The facility, to be built in the Chinese city of Foshan, will cost US$29.5 million and is expected to come onstream in early 2011.
Fujitsu will team with a local-government-affiliated investment firm and Guangdong Electronic Certification Authority to set up a joint venture for the center, which will primarily serve financial institutions in the region.
The center will be the company's first such facility in China, although it leases data centers in Shanghai and Dalian.
Meanwhile, Fujitsu opened the new annex of its Tatebayashi System Center in Gunma Prefecture. The building, housing five stories above ground and one below, will be a base for providing cloud computing services.
