OverDrive Ships Android Audiobook App
Dec 29, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) --
OverDrive, a distributor of audiobooks and eBooks to libraries and retailers, announced the beta release of an audiobook app that enables Android phone and device owners to wirelessly download digital audiobooks.
OverDrive's audiobook app for Android is compatible with MP3 audiobooks from more than 10,000 libraries and major online retailers, including BarnesAndNoble.com, BooksOnBoard.com, and Borders.com.
"Expanding and enhancing our mobile user experience will be key to consumer adoption of digital books from our library, retail, and publisher partners," said David Burleigh, director of marketing for OverDrive. "While OverDrive audiobook downloads are already compatible with devices such as the iPod and iPhone, we are committed to providing a complete download experience on mobile devices, with audiobook apps for iPhone and BlackBerry expected in 2010."
OverDrive Media Console for Android beta v.0.1 provides the same audiobook listening experience as OverDrive's desktop software. Users can navigate downloaded parts using MediaMarkers, create bookmarks, and resume from the last point played. Audiobooks from the public library automatically expire in the app so there is never a late fee.
OverDrive provides download services for thousands of libraries, retailers, and schools worldwide with support for PC, Mac, and Sony Reader, as well as the largest collection of iPod-compatible audiobooks for libraries.
