VeriSign, a provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, announced that its VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) Access for Mobile received the "Superstar" award in both the "Consumer Application" and "Enterprise Software" product categories in the eighth annual Mobile Star Awards program, hosted by mobile technology news portal MobileVillage.com.
The Mobile Star Awards are voted by the readers of MobileVillage.com and nearly 2,000 people voted for this year's winners.
VIP Access for Mobile is a free mobile application that transforms more than 350 different mobile devices into VIP authentication credentials. VIP Access for Mobile is an integral component of the VIP Authentication Service, which provides cloud-based two-factor authentication. Two-factor Authentication is a system where two forms of identity are used for the user login process. It works by requiring each user to provide not just a username and password but also a one-time six-digit security code generated by the user's VIP authentication credential. The VIP Authentication Service offers an additional layer of protection to any number of employees, partners or customers -- anyone who needs highly secure remote access to an organization's network.
"We are very pleased to again have VIP Access for Mobile recognized as one of the leading two-factor authentication services leveraging millions of mobile handsets available," said Kerry Loftus, vice president of User Authentication at VeriSign. "Since its launch, VIP Access for Mobile has received a tremendous response by consumers and enterprises, and it is very satisfying to see this type of continued support and validation from the end-user community."
As in past years, the Mobile Star Awards program showcases "best of" entries in dozens of categories including mobile apps, enterprise mobile software, wireless network products, enterprise success stories, mobile industry visionaries, and more.
Winners were chosen by subscribers of MobileVillage's "Go Mobile" -- a free e-newsletter that delivers headlines and links from top mobile technology stories on Web sites such as CNET, Engadget, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Computerworld, AppScout, and others. "Go Mobile" was launched nearly ten years ago and is now published every three weeks for thousands of readers.
