Country Cricketers Back in Training for Scotland

The national cricket team resumed training on Monday at the Aga Khan Sports Club in preparations for the International Cricket Council Intercontinental Cup against Scotland set for Nairobi Gymkhana from January 25 to 28.

The Cricket Kenya treasurer, Nasoor Verjee, who is also the election sub-committee chairman, said that the boys will be doing gym work for fitness due to the prevailing weather condition in Nairobi.

He also said that all the youngsters who did duty for Kenya against Uganda in December will be available for selection.

He said: "Nobody has retired, they are all available for selection with the exception of Ragheb Aga who will not be available for the match against Scotland as he will still be with his Sussex County team which has sent him to the High Performance Centre in Pretoria, South Africa."

He Seren Waters who was part of the team that played Uganda and who is currently in the country will also have to confirm his availability.

Verjee said that CK will also be responsible to fly in former captain and the vice-captain, Steve Tikolo and Thomas Odoyo respectively for both Intercontinental Cup and the ICC World Twenty20 qualifiers slated for the United Arab Emirates from February 9 to 13.

In the qualifier Kenya is drawn in Group B together with the Netherlands, Canada and hosts UAE while the other group has Ireland, Scotland, Afghanistan and the United States of America.

Ireland, Kenya, Canada, the Netherlands, Afghanistan and Scotland qualified for the event on the basis of their one day international status while the UAE and the USA have been invited to participate by the ICC.

The two finalists will qualify for the Twenty20 World Cup slated for the Caribbean in May. The winner of the tournament will join South Africa and India in Group C while the losing finalist will join Group D which includes the West Indies and England.
