Cavium Networks, a provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications and the connected home, announced that Accton Technology has selected Cavium's PureVu video processor family for its next generation designs targeting wireless home video networking applications.
Cavium's netHD technology is based on H.264 compression standard and 802.11n WiFi networking to enable end-to-end wireless display and home video distribution capability in a variety of consumer electronic devices. Accton's netHD based products using Cavium's CNW3XXX PureVu family are already available in the market.
"We are very happy to be working closely with Cavium on bringing state-of-the-art home video distribution products to the consumer space," said Samuel Chang, the EVP of Accton. "As a provider of networking and communication equipment, Accton has a strong track record of offering end-to-end solutions that enable rapid market deployment. Cavium's PureVu video processors, along with their comprehensive netHD technology, provided us with a holistic solution that enabled rapid customization and market introduction of our products. This time-to-product advantage has allowed us to be one of the first to offer our PureVu based designs to global OEMs."
Accton's initial designs based on the PureVu technology offer stand-alone transmitter and receiver wireless dongles that can attach to any media source with HDMI or VGA output, and use standard 802.11n WiFi technology to transmit the H.264 encoded video stream to a remote display. A stand-alone receiver dongle on the display side, then, decodes and displays the compressed video stream on the TV monitor it is connected to via HDMI.
