"February 2010 - SWOT Analysis of Proposed Tyco (TYC) and Brink's Home Security (CFL) Merger", a new report that analyzes the strength, weakness, opportunity, and threat (SWOT) to Tyco's (TYC: NYSE) acquisition of Broadview Security (NYSE: CFL), suggests that downloadable app technology will challenge home security companies in the near future. Karin Kusuda, a contributor to the report comments, "By 2015, the clearest threat to the billion dollar home security market will be the connectivity of inexpensive open architecture home alarm systems to apps that run on mobile smart phones such as the iPhone (NASDAQ: AAPL)." Kusuda adds, "The home will be wireless and accessible to the homeowner via laptop, car, and mobile device....The key differentiator - real-time home monitoring, will become a commodity... new app technology running on smart devices will easily monitor and record real-time security information, enabling users to seamlessly forward alerts to family members, neighbors, and local authorities...It is unlikely that monthly fees of $30-$100 for home security monitoring will be sustainable."
Kusuda comments that the merger offers a number of robust economic advantages. "New economies of scale will create cashflow strength, boosting long-term profits for the new company.... However, while unpredictable, a prevailing threat to the deal is regulatory. It is unlikely that U.S. Department of Justice anti-trust division will quickly pass over the merger of the two largest players in the sector, says Kusuda."
Other key highlights of the SWOT report include:
1. Market Drivers and Transaction Expectations
2. Share Price Analysis
3. Regulatory Issues
4. Debt Analysis
5. Projected 5-Year Valuation
