ECO2 Forests Projects Receives Vanuatu Government Approval
SACRAMENTO, CA and QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA, Feb 09, 2010 -- ECO2 Forests Inc. (PINKSHEETS: ECOF), is pleased to announce that is has received Government approval from the Vanuatu Investment Promotion Authority (VIPA) to conduct their Reforestation Project on the island of Malakula.
Approval from VIPA, the national government authority, officially recognizes that the ECO2 Forests Malakula project meets the criteria set by the Government that the project is of benefit to the people and environment of Vanuatu and is compliant with all regulations.
The VIPA approval and support expressed by the Malampa Council for ECO2 Forests now allows for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), the final step in the planning and approval process, to be completed.
The Government of Vanuatu stipulates that all foreign companies wishing to trade, work or establish any sort of enterprise in Vanuatu apply for and receive VIPA approval. Central to the approval process, VIPA assesses the benefit and impact the project has with the environment and the growth of Vanuatu and its people, including the employment it will create.
ECO2 Forests intends to create in excess of 300 full time jobs, sourced from the local community on Malakula, an island currently limited in employment opportunities. These permanent positions are forecast to expand as the project grows and is planned to continue over multiple generations. ECO2 Forests intends to deliver world class education in sustainable forestry and forest preservation to entire families and communities in Vanuatu.
In the approval letter from the VIPA Board, dated 15th January 2010, it was noted "that these forests remove large amounts of Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere and are a significant contributor to the mitigation of global warming." "In November 2009, we visited with representatives of the National Advisory Committee on Climate Change, the then Minister of Agriculture and senior representatives of the Malampa Provincial Council, where positive discussions focussed on future opportunities of working with the local communities. These meetings attended by ECO2 executives were centered on ensuring positive economic, environmental, educational and employment outcomes for Vanuatu and its communities, which is specifically consistent with our own E4 Philosophy," Chief Operating Officer Ray Smith said.
"In addition to the approval of the Vanuatu Investment Promotion Authority, we have presented the project to the full provincial council and custom land owners and they indicated in writing their support for the project. Project information has also been supplied to other government officials interested in supporting the project," added Smith.
"The approval and support of the government and provincial counsel recognizes the long-term positive social, economic and environmental impact that the ECO2 Forests project will have for Vanuatu." "Infrastructure developments and upgrades for the local community will aim to provide improved access and facilities. Incorporating cultural aesthetics in all design and development will enable communities to maintain their traditions and way of life," ECO2 Founder Martin Tindall commented.
The Malakula Reforestation Project is intended to provide environmental benefits for the entire country and the world through the sequestration of over 7 million tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in every seven year harvest cycle. The sustainable nature of the reforestation project will also negate the need to log old growth and rain forests in Vanuatu, preserving the natural beauty of the Vanuatu islands for generations to come.

BSD Medical Reports Initiation of a Phase III Study on Pancreatic Cancer Using the BSD-2000 Hyperthermia System in Combination with Chemotherapy
SALT LAKE CITY, Feb 09, 2010 -- BSD Medical Corporation (NASDAQ: BSDM) reports initiation of a randomized, multicenter Phase III clinical study using the BSD-2000 Hyperthermia System in combination with chemotherapy for the treatment of pancreatic cancer patients after R0/R1 surgical resection of their tumor (complete removal or only microscopic tumor remaining). The coordinating investigator is Rolf D. Issels, MD PhD, Department of Medical Oncology, Klinikum Grosshadern, Munich University Medical School, Munich, Germany. The Phase III study, which is being sponsored by the European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology (ESHO), will compare hyperthermia with chemotherapy (gemcitabine) to chemotherapy (gemcitabine) alone.
The Phase III study was initiated following completion of a Phase II study that utilized chemotherapy and hyperthermia to treat 21 inoperable pancreatic patients who were resistant to or had failed previous chemotherapy gemcitabine treatments, a patient population with a dire prognosis. There was one complete response (complete disappearance of the tumor), 3 partial responses (more than 50% tumor reduction), and 7 patients with stable disease (no tumor growth). The study results demonstrated a low toxicity rate and an overall survival of 16.9 months. By comparison, the median survival for inoperable pancreatic cancer patients after gemcitabine treatment is only 6 months. The Phase III study, which is being sponsored by the European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology (ESHO), will compare hyperthermia with chemotherapy (gemcitabine) to chemotherapy (gemcitabine) alone.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest and hardest to treat cancers and is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death. There were an estimated 42,470 Americans and 60,000 Europeans diagnosed with pancreatic cancer during 2009 and approximately 80% are inoperable. The median survival period from the time of diagnosis until death is 3.5 to 6 months, depending on treatment, and less than 5 percent survive to five years. Advanced pancreatic cancer patients currently have few treatment options. The study is scheduled to open for patient enrollment in March 2010. The following clinical sites will participate in the clinical study: Klinikum Grosshadern of Ludwigs-Maximilans-Universitat Munchen, HELIOS Schlossbergklinik Oberstaufen, Rotkreuzkrankenhaus Munchen, Universitatsklinikum Dusseldorf, Klinikum Mannheim of Heidelberg University Medical School, Universitatsklinikum Erlangen, Universitatsklinikum Freiburg, Universitatsklinikum Tubingen, and Charite University Medical School Berlin (all Germany); Kantonsspital Aarau AG (Switzerland); and Ospedale Borgo Trento Verona (Italy).
About the European Society for Hyperthermic Oncology ESHO was organized to promote research relating to the use of hyperthermia in cancer therapy and to facilitate the exchange of information among multiple disciplines regarding the study of heat in the treatment of cancer.

Nymox Provides Update on Pivotal Phase 3 Trials for BPH Drug
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J., Feb 9, 2010 -- Nymox Pharmaceutical Corporation (Nasdaq:NYMX) provided an update today on the Company's Phase 3 program for NX-1207, Nymox's investigational drug for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The first Safety Monitoring Committee meeting of 2010 for the Phase 3 U.S. pivotal trials of NX-1207 indicated an acceptable ongoing safety evaluation of the trials to date. Patient recruitment and trial activities for pivotal U.S. studies NX02-0017 and NX02-0018 are proceeding at over 60 well-known urology investigative sites throughout the U.S. The participating centers continue to evaluate and enroll patients and accrual is progressing well. The current Phase 3 trials incorporate specific protocol design recommendations made by the FDA at the earlier EOP2 meeting with the Company. For more information about the NX-1207 Phase 3 clinical trials, please go to www.clinicaltrials.gov or contact Nymox at info@nymox.com.
NX-1207 has been shown to improve the signs and symptoms of BPH, producing improvements which reached statistical significance compared to double-blinded placebo and study controls. A single administration of NX-1207 2.5 mg has produced on average improvements in the standardized BPH symptom score (8-10 points) that were approximately double that reported for currently approved BPH drugs (3-5 points). NX-1207 involves a new targeted approach to the treatment of BPH. The drug is administered by a urologist in an office setting directly into the zone of the prostate where the enlargement occurs. The injection takes only a few minutes and involves little or no pain or discomfort. NX-1207 has not been found to have the sexual, blood pressure, or other side effects of the approved drugs.
Follow-up studies have shown clinical efficacy effects in men lasting up to 5 years after a single treatment. At one year after a single treatment, the median improvement in BPH Symptom Score was 9.0 points in the AUA Symptom Score (p<.003).
In a recently published peer-reviewed publication entitled, NX-1207: a novel investigational drug for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia" written by Neal Shore MD FACS, Medical Director of the Carolina Urologic Research Center, Myrtle Beach, SC, in Expert Opinion on Investigational Drugs, the author wrote: "Regarding existing oral drug therapies, the use of NX-1207 would obviate daily and lifelong compliance issues as well as the ongoing concerns of polypharmacy facing the elderly and the attendant risk for drug-drug interactions. In comparison to office-based MIST options, the transrectal injection approach afforded by NX-1207, both anesthetic/analgesic free as well as catheter free, will be quite compelling to most patients. If the ongoing Phase III trials can duplicate the success seen in earlier trials, for both efficacy and safety, then the administration of NX-1207 should be expected to significantly impact the current pattern of treatment options employed by urologists for their patients with BPH". The paper is available online at http://informahealthcare.com/doi/abs/10.1517/ 13543780903555196.
BPH is one of the most commonly diagnosed diseases in the male U.S. population. The condition can seriously impact the health and quality of life of older men and can lead to acute urinary retention, incontinence, and other serious consequences. It is estimated that 50% of men in their 50s have pathological signs of prostatic hyperplasia and from 26 to 46% of men between the ages of 40 to 79 years suffer from moderate to severe urinary problems and symptoms associated with BPH.
