On Thurs., Nov. 19, more than 120 ARAMARK employees in the greater Houston region will participate in a volunteer day of service, revitalizing the homes of five families in the Sunnyside/Southpark area of Houston. Volunteers will enhance the exterior of the homes by repairing sheet rock, removing debris, painting mural benches, landscaping and painting, in addition to interior work, including hanging doors and other restorative projects. One of the homes will be prepared for complete remodeling.

ARAMARK employees will also conduct a drive for household wares and non-perishable food items, such as towels, blankets and Thanksgiving meal boxes, for the families.

"Most people have moved on and forgotten about the lives that were disrupted and the devastation caused by Hurricane Ike more than a year ago," said Angela Blanchard, president and CEO of Neighborhood Centers Inc. "ARAMARK has not forgotten and is working to help families move toward recovery by repairing their homes. As our partnership has evolved over the last three years, ARAMARK has helped us fill critical needs in our community and we are grateful for the company's vision and strong support."

Neighborhood Centers' Stay Connected program, created to provide case management and relief efforts for people who have been affected by natural disasters, is an important asset to the city. Originally developed following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the program has grown to be a central relief program for those affected by Hurricane Ike as well. In 2008, the program served more than 5,500 households affected by Hurricane Ike. The Stay Connected program was expanded earlier this year through a grant from the Texas Health and Human Services funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.

"ARAMARK has made a significant commitment to helping the community centers that are a part of the Neighborhood Centers family, but this project really takes our partnership to the next level. It allows our volunteers to experience how their help will directly benefit these families," said Marc Bruno, president, ARAMARK Sports, Entertainment & Conventions and local ARAMARK Building Community executive sponsor. "Our ongoing partnership with NCI allows our employees to use their diverse expertise in nutrition, workforce readiness and basic human services outside of their daily jobs to make a considerable difference for Houston families where it's needed most."

Together, NCI and ARAMARK have developed several initiatives to support Houston's communities. Their efforts include enhancing NCI community centers; co-hosting youth career fairs to help prepare young people for jobs; and offering community health and wellness fairs to promote healthy lifestyle choices. In 2010, the partners are looking to further expand their efforts with new job training and placement opportunities, and micro-commerce support for small business for NCI's newest neighborhood center -- Baker-Ripley in the Gulfton area.
