EdiPower Selects Accenture to Help Improve Service Operations with Predictive Monitoring Solution -
MILAN, Italy, Apr 28, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Accenture (NYSE: ACN) will help Italian utility EdiPower reduce equipment failure and service disruptions by deploying a predictive monitoring solution, which draws upon Accenture's research into improving businesses' ability to access, analyze and act upon business intelligence in real-time.
Accenture will use SmartSignal's predictive monitoring system which extracts information from equipment sensors, control systems and business systems and then uses analytical models to predict equipment failures before they occur, reducing forced outages and greatly improving plant availability. The predictive monitoring solution will enable EdiPower to minimize downtime and emergency maintenance by providing EdiPower staff with real-time alerts.
"Most enterprise equipment maintenance today is either conducted reactively, after a costly failure occurs, or routinely, whether maintenance is needed or not," said Claudio Arcudi, a senior executive in Accenture's Utilities practice. "In its quest for high performance, EdiPower should be able to improve its maintenance planning, reduce maintenance costs and minimize plant downtime."
The predictive monitoring system was populated with data gathered by EdiPower's local plant site staff and data managers. Data cleansing and model creation were performed by Accenture with support from the utility and SmartSignal.

About EdiPower
Today EdiPower ranks among the largest Italian energy producers, with a 7.1% share of national demand and 6,800 MW of power plants in operation, of which 750 MW from renewable (hydroelectric) sources and approximately 24 billion kilowatt produced in 2007. The technological mix and the locations of the plants make it possible to provide an offer capable of meeting the different energy needs of the national territory.
Edipower's real strength is found in the diversification of the sources of energy procurement: gas (whose use is constantly growing) but also oil, coal and naturally water. This diversification represents a guarantee of high efficiency, flexibility and safety of the productive system. www.edipower.it

CBA overhaul taps SAP and Accenture - Zibb.com
Apr 28, 2008 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) has signed an IT services deal with providers Accenture and SAP. The contract is for four years at a cost of $A580m, and marks the first time one of the major four banks in the nation has taken steps to refresh its core IT systems. The capital investment will be $A450m, with the rest accounted for by training and similar expenditure. The ultimate goal is for CBA to follow the example of some overseas banks who have rolled out generic financial products in new markets based on the core banking software system. In CBA's case, this will aid its planned expansion into Asia. CIO Michael Harte also notes the development time for such new products will fall to mere days from the current months.
