Atheros Communications rallies on Piper Jaffray upgrade - Zibb.com

NEW YORK, Jun 30, 2008 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) --

Shares of Atheros Communications rallied Monday after Piper Jaffray upgraded the semiconductor systems maker, citing indications of market share gains.

Analyst Auguste Richard raised his rating to buy from neutral, while keeping his price target at $34.

The stock was up 4.3% at $30.67. It had hit a 1 1/2-month low of $28.50 in intraday trading on Friday.

Richard said his research suggests the company had picked up more share at PC original equipment makers, and that the delay of Intel Corp.'s launch of Montevina is turning out to be a net positive for Atheros.

Atheros Communications 1Q adjusted earnings in line with analyst expectations - Zibb.com

Atheros Communications Inc. late Monday reported first-quarter adjusted earnings of $17.2 million, or 28 cents a share, in line with the mean estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.

Adjusted income in the year-earlier period was $13.6 million, or 23 cents a share.

Net earnings for the quarter ended March 31 came to $3.42 million, or 6 cents a share, versus $7.6 million, or 13 cents a share, a year ago.

Revenue rose to $114.5 million from $95.5 million the prior-year period, above the mean Street view of $113.9 million.

Shares of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based provider of semiconductor products for the wireless communications market closed the regular session down 71 cents at $26.53. Brigid Gaffikin bg/gm
