Audiovox Corporation and Universal Electronics Inc. Enter Into Strategic Relationship for Select
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., May 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Audiovox Corporation (Nasdaq: VOXX) today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Audiovox Accessories Corp. (AAC) has reached a comprehensive agreement with Universal Electronics Inc. (Nasdaq: UEIC) that will cover the supply of microcontrollers and software for existing AAC brands, development of new products, and a license for distribution rights for products sold in North America as well as selected Latin America and Asian retail markets as the ONE FOR ALL(R) brand.
Under the terms of the agreement, UEI will become the exclusive supplier of embedded microcontrollers and infrared (IR) database software for Audiovox's complete line of RCA universal remote controls sold in North America. Additionally, UEI will develop future remote controls for existing brands in the AAC line-up. Today, Audiovox, through its RCA and Acoustic Research brands, is the #1 provider (unit market share) of universal remotes, which are sold in major retail outlets across the country.
UEI has also granted Audiovox an exclusive license to sell and distribute ONE FOR ALL(R) brand remote controls in North America and other selected Latin American and Asian markets. The ONE FOR ALL(R) brand will continue to be sold and distributed internationally in regions not covered by this agreement through Universal Electronics, BV, a wholly-owned subsidiary of UEI.
Commenting on today's announcement, Patrick Lavelle, President and CEO of Audiovox stated, "We are pleased to have expanded our relationship with UEI and believe the customer will ultimately be the beneficiary as they will receive the most innovative solutions. This agreement will further enhance our R&D capabilities and help us penetrate new customer segments. It will also allow us to grow our market leading position in the remote control category."
David Geise, president of Audiovox Accessories Corporation stated, "Remote controls are playing an increasingly important role in the entertainment ecosystem and serve as the primary touch point for consumers accessing media. Our new partnership with UEI affords us a great opportunity to take on a well-known brand such as ONE FOR ALL(R) with strong potential for growth in the North American market. This agreement positions Audiovox to take advantage of the continuing growth in the home entertainment industry, allowing us access to a trusted partner in remote control innovation and technology. This will help us to aggressively expand our existing lineup through the Acoustic Research and RCA families."
"We're thrilled that both parties were able to complete an agreement of this magnitude as it should immediately benefit both companies enormously," says Paul Arling, chairman and chief executive officer of Universal Electronics. "We fully expect Audiovox to propel the ONE FOR ALL(R) brand through their market leadership in sales and distribution of retail remote controls and accessories. Audiovox is the premier global leader in electronics accessories and is an ideal choice for managing and distributing of the ONE FOR ALL(R) brand in North America. We look forward to an exciting future with the prestigious Acoustic Research lineup and the iconic RCA products, along with the new opportunities this opens up for us in the retail channel."

Audiovox Expands Mexico Facility - Zibb.com
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., May 8, 2008 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Audiovox Corporation (Nasdaq: VOXX) announced today that its wholly-owned subsidiary Audiovox Mexico has relocated its headquarters to the business district, Del. Miguel Hidalgo in Mexico City.
The recently formed Audiovox Mexico needed the new facility to help it meet expected additional business demand resulting from two key business situations. First, the recent license agreement with the Eveready Battery Company to market and distribute Energizer-branded products throughout Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America and second, the increased emphasis on distribution of some of the Audiovox-branded products that is planned for the region.
Audiovox Mexico was established as part of the Company's most recent acquisition, when it took over the RCA Audio/Video facility in Mexico. Audiovox believes a local presence in the growing Latin America market will allow it to expand beyond the RCA product lines and into the Company's diverse product portfolio.
The new location features a large, hi-tech product showroom where customers can view core products, interact with a highly knowledgeable customer support team, and experience first-hand, the Audiovox family of brands.
The facility houses all operational units including financial, commercial, administration, technical support and marketing and serves as the headquarters for Audiovox's Consumer Electronics Audio/Video, Mobile Audio/Video, Security and Accessories business locally in Mexico.
"This new facility is in keeping with our stated goals for increased international presence both overseas and in the Americas," said Patrick Lavelle, President and CEO of Audiovox Corporation. "Our new premises at Miguel Hidalgo are state-of-the-art and should allow us to grow our business while providing the level of customer service and support that has been our hallmark in our domestic operations."

Audiovox downgraded to accumulate at C.L. King; "off-peak" 4Q results cited - Zibb.com
NEW YORK, May 16, 2008 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) --
Shares of Audiovox Corp. fell Friday after the company was downgraded to accumulate from strong buy at C.L. King, which cited what it called the company's "off-peak" fourth-quarter results.
"While we would expect improved, albeit still depressed, operating margins in the current fiscal year, we would also anticipate that Audiovox's results will be clearly impacted by what appears to be recessionary conditions in the larger world of consumer discretionary spending," C.L. King said.
The firm cut the company's 2008 outlook to 38 cents a share from 60 cents a share.
On Thursday, Audiovox reported an adjusted loss from continuing operations of 8 cents a share and sales of $131.3 million. C.L. King, the only firm to forecast results for the company, was expecting a loss of 5 cents a share.
The firm said the company's sales growth was below expectations as the economic slowdown has inhibited its ability to "significantly leverage its now larger fixed cost overhead."
Shares of Audiovox fell 7.3% to $10.05 in morning trading Friday. The stock was traded on a volume of 102,484 shares, easily outpacing its 30-day average volume of 53,216 shares. Ryan Vlastelica rv/vj
