Leadis Technology Introduces Low Noise 300 mA LDO With Sequencing - Zibb.com
SUNNYVALE, CA, Jun 09, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) --
Leadis Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: LDIS), an analog and mixed-signal semiconductor developer of color display drivers, power management ICs, white/RGB LED drivers, audio ICs, and touch controller ICs for mobile consumer electronic devices, today announced sample availability of the LDS8211BP, an adjustable 300 mA Low Drop Out linear regulator (LDO) with low noise characteristics, capable of regulating outputs greater than or equal to 1.175 V.
Packaged in a SOT-23-5 and stable with 1 uF MLC filter capacitors, the footprint and profile of the LDS8211BP solution is ideal for auxiliary rails where space is at a premium. This low noise LDO will not interfere with sensitive loads such as fast I/O, RF or graphics processing circuits. Furthermore, the LDS8211BP is capable of regulating low output voltages, down to 1.175 V, an increasingly common requirement with deep sub-micron CMOS loads. The heart of this LDO is a precise, self-correcting AcuRef(TM) bandgap reference, delivering an output voltage tolerance within +/-2% over the full line, load and operating temperature range. An ENABLE function permits remote power management and sequencing for complex multi-rail loads. Comprehensive protection against load short circuits, overload and excessive junction temperature yields a robust, high performance solution for low current point of load regulation in static and portable applications.
"The LDO is still the solution of choice for noise-sensitive applications below 1 A," said Paul Greenland, Senior Director of Power Management Marketing at Leadis Technology. "The LDS8211BP out-performs its CMOS counterparts in demanding applications where low noise, precision and low voltage regulation are pre-requisites for benchmark system performance."

Leadis Technology Introduces World's First Touch Controllers With Integrated Haptics Driver for
SUNNYVALE, CA, May 19, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) --
Leadis Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: LDIS), an analog and mixed-signal semiconductor developer of color display driver, power management ICs, LED drivers, and audio ICs for mobile consumer electronic devices, today announced sample availability of the LDS6010 and LDS6040, two new products in the company's family of PureTouch(TM) low-power controllers designed for capacitive touch applications. The new devices are the world's first capacitive touch controllers with an integrated haptics driver for use with mobile phone touch-input controls including sliders, scroll wheels, and buttons. Both devices carry the "VibeTonz(R)-Ready" designation, certifying compatibility with Immersion Corporation's VibeTonz advanced haptic platform for mobile phones.
The LDS6010/LDS6040 controllers' haptics driver is a sophisticated block capable of delivering the crisp response required to achieve advanced tactile effects. The driver supports both ERM (eccentric rotating mass) and LRA (linear resonant actuator) vibration motors, enabling flexibility in system design for deploying an advanced haptics platform. A smart watchdog timer monitors the PWM input and sets the haptics driver to shutdown mode to save power if no PWM activity is detected. An integrated over-temperature shutdown protection circuit disables the haptics functionality if the controller temperature exceeds 135C, providing protection against motor failure conditions that might otherwise result in excessive current conditions and system battery drainage.
The LDS6040 also incorporates LED drivers for integrated visual feedback, with up to eight of the 15 touch sensor inputs configurable as keypad LED drivers capable of driving up to 8mA each (16mA available by connecting a single LED to two driver outputs). Sharing the same advanced LED driver architecture as Leadis' previously announced LDS6020 controller, the LDS6040 also supports true current control (0.25mA increments) with up to 32 dimming steps, a high-side architecture for enhanced safety and ESD immunity, and host-less activation of an LED when a touch event occurs. The LDS6040's haptics and LED drivers operate within a 3V to 5V supply range, with a programmable on-board voltage regulator enabling direct connection of the haptics supply to the system battery while still ensuring a consistent haptics experience across the battery discharge curve.
Optimized with a low power touch operating voltage of 1.8V, the LDS6010 and LDS6040 consume less than 200uW in full power mode (haptics in shutdown), eliminating the need for low power modes and their associated first-touch latency artifacts. Both controllers feature 15 touch sensor inputs.
Having passed rigorous testing criteria, both devices can be incorporated by Immersion's licensees into VibeTonz capable handsets. The VibeTonz Platform lets mobile phone manufacturers and content developers embed touch sensations in the handset user interface, media, and applications, including for:
-- Providing unmistakable tactile confirmation in response to touchscreen
or button presses
-- Empowering caller ID with distinctive vibrations matching a melody or
song that let users know who is calling even when sound is turned off
-- Enlivening mobile games with touch feedback similar to that found in
console games
-- Supplying pulses when scrolling over items, allowing favorites,
friends, or unread emails to feel a bit differently for easier, faster
identification
-- Heightening the music and ringtone fun-factor by "turning up the
subwoofers" with a vibe beat
-- Making alerts more discernible and memorable by varying how they feel:
the beat of a team's fight song tells the user a message with the latest
score has arrived
"More than 13 million mobile handsets have been shipped with our VibeTonz Platform," said Mark Belinsky, Vice President and General Manager for Mobility at Immersion. "Use of capacitive touch controls in mobile handsets, like the buttons and sliders that Leadis supports, is also growing. We are receiving a great deal of interest in the use of our VibeTonz Platform to provide tactile feedback for these types of touch controls. The new Leadis integrated touch controller and haptics driver solutions can make it easier for our licensees to integrate the Platform into their mobile handsets."
"We're delighted to introduce the world's first touch controllers with integrated haptics driver functionality," said Alvin Wong, Vice President and General Manager of Touch Technology at Leadis. "The VibeTonz haptics platform is a key differentiator that enables touch feedback for capacitive touch control inputs, as well as mobile content such as games, ringtones, and applications, helping to make the user experience more fun, distinctive, and intuitive. We're extremely pleased to support this advanced capability and proud to be the first touch controller provider to earn the VibeTonz(R)-Ready certification."
