Micrel Releases Family of Micro-Power Single LDOs - Zibb.com

Micrel, a developer of analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, announced it launched the MIC5326/27/37 family of devices.

The family of single output, low quiescent current LDO regulators is suited for battery-powered electronics including mobile phones, PDAs, MP3s, PNDs, DSCs and handheld medical instruments. The company said the MIC5326/27/37 family of LDOs is capable of sourcing up to 300 milli Amp, while consuming only 24 micro Amp of quiescent current and still maintaining low dropout performance in a tiny 1.2mm x 1.6mm Thin MLF package. The combination of these performance benefits provide extended battery run time for small handheld applications, the company added. The MIC5326/27/37 family is currently available in volume.

"Today's portable applications continue to converge features, while demanding improved operating times from a single battery charge," noted Andy Khayat, Micrel's director of marketing for portable power products. "Micrel's new MIC5326/27/37 family of low quiescent current LDO regulators gives customers the perfect solution where small footprint and maximum battery life are key factors."

The MIC5326/27/37 family provides transient response to any load change condition, while still maintaining high PSRR. The devices achieve this in spite of consuming just 24 micro Amps of quiescent current in a small, thermally-enhanced Thin MLF package.

Micrel Unveils 120V Automotive AEC-Q100 Qualified LDO - Zibb.com

Micrel, a provider of analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, jas launched the MAQ5280, which the company called the industry's first 120V LDO designed and qualified for the automotive market.

The new device consumes only 31 micro Amps of quiescent current and has a typical shutdown current of 0.02 micro Amps. The MAQ5280 is capable of delivering a guaranteed output current of 25 milli Amps and an ultra-high PSRR of greater than 80dB. The company said this features make it an ideal component for stand-by power supplies in automotive applications and noise sensitive applications such as RF and audio. The MAQ5280 is Micrel's first AEC-Q100 dedicated analog automotive product and can withstand the load dump requirement for a wide variety of automotive systems. It is currently available in volume quantities.

"The MAQ5280 solidifies Micrel's foothold in the expanding LDO automotive market by introducing the industry's first 120V LDO," said Andrew Cowell, Micrel's vice president of Analog. "This product is fully automotive qualified and presents Micrel's first dedicated product aimed at the growing automotive market."

The MAQ5280 has an adjustable output voltage capable of providing voltages between 1.215V and 5V and can provide power for a wide variety of devices within an automotive system, all without the need for any protection circuitry. The MAQ5280 also has reverse battery protection down to a DC voltage of -24V and an ultra-high PSRR of greater than 80dB, thereby providing customers with an LDO that delivers outstanding performance. The MAQ5280 is a very robust IC that offers protection features such as thermal shutdown and current limit protection. It also gives designers high output voltage accuracy of +/- 1.5 percent initial accuracy, +/- 2.5 percent over temperature and is offered in an exposed pad SOIC-8 package allowing for greater heat dissipation. The IC features an operating junction temperature range of -40-deg C to 125-deg C and is an AEC-Q100 qualified part, the company noted in a release.
