TOKYO, Sep 15, 2009 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) --
Nikon Corp. (TSE:7731) has launched a push to win greater brand recognition among people in their teens and 20s, harnessing Nintendo Co.'s (7974) Wii game console as well as advertising in the Hanako women's magazine and on Mixi Inc.'s (TSE:2121) social networking service.
Nikon's main customers are men in their 40s and 50s, and this is the company's first-ever cross-media campaign directed at the youth market.
Nintendo operates a Wii content delivery service called Wiinoma, which is accessible as one of the Wii Channels and is basically a television channel. Nikon has begun using Wiinoma to broadcast its own content, dubbed Nikonnoma. The programs are free to watch and cover a variety of topics, including technical explanations of digital single-lens reflex cameras and semiconductor photolithography systems. Nikon plans to have a selection of six programs available by mid-October.
The Wiinoma channel had approximately 2.4 million users as of the end of August. Parents and children often watch it together.
Nikon will use Hanako to advertise digital cameras and to let people know about its presence on Wiinoma. It will also post special articles on Mixi as well as splash full-screen advertising on the Mixi login screen.
