Tektronix Creates World's First Test Cookbook for New UWB WiMedia 1.2 Specification - Zibb.com
BEAVERTON, Ore., May 19, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Tektronix, Inc., a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced it had created the world's first Methods of Implementation (MOI) for the new Ultra-Wideband (UWB) WiMedia PHY Test Specification Version 1.2 and released a new version of UWB Analysis software for DSA/DPO70000 series oscilloscopes that provides additional measurements for UWB WiMedia 1.2 http://www.tek.com/wimedia. With the new WiMedia PHY Test Specification Version 1.2 adding more receiver testing, the Tektronix AWG7102 Arbitrary Waveform Generator and RFXpress signal creation software are the best choices for engineers working with v1.0 and v1.2 and planning for v1.5.
"Customers working with UWB WiMedia need simplified test methodologies and the ability to trigger, capture, and analyze high speed RF signals," said Brian Reich, vice president, Performance Scopes Product Line, Tektronix. "With the new MOI providing step-by-step instructions to perform 1.2 specification compliance testing and the latest UWB Analysis software, Tektronix provides customers the most capable toolset for debugging and analyzing complex UWB waveforms while running on the industry's highest performance hardware. No other combination of software and hardware in the market is able to match Tektronix for UWB WiMedia analysis and performance."
Transmitter Analysis
For UWB WiMedia radios using MB-OFDM technology for Certified Wireless USB, next generation Bluetooth, WiNet and Wireless FireWire (IEEE1394) applications, Tektronix UWB Analysis software reads the digital information from the RF waveform to determine the demodulation method on a packet-by-packet basis. By reading the digital information from the RF waveforms, UWB Analysis automatically determines which demodulation method is used, data rates, time frequency coding, the pass/fail test limits, and constellation type that is then displayed. Detection and analysis is done on each packet from the RF content, greatly simplifying setup and speeding analysis and compliance tests.
UWB Analysis is augmented by the features of the world's highest performing real-time oscilloscope and provides the specific modulation and spectral analysis for WiMedia Version 1.2. This is especially useful for engineers designing, testing and integrating UWB radios into Certified Wireless USB, next generation Bluetooth, and other industry consumer and computer applications.
Receiver Testing
The Tektronix MOI covers the new v1.2 requirements for receiver testing. RFXpress software running on the AWG7102 provides an efficient way of creating compliant and non-compliant WiMedia waveforms for all bandgroups, data rates and both hopping -- Time Frequency Interleaving (TFI) and Time Frequency Interleaving over 2 Bands (TFI2) -- and non hopping -- Fixed Frequency Interleaving (FFI) -- Time Frequency Codes. This enables WiMedia designers and validation engineers to improve the reliability of their designs. With 20GS/s sampling technology engineers can create signals in bandgroups 1 and 2 that are generated directly from the AWG7102 without the need for an external I/Q modulator. For the higher frequency bandgroups the AWG7102 provides added flexibility by enabling waveform creation through either I/Q modulation or less expensive mixing tools. The AWG7102 arbitrary waveform generator provides comprehensive WiMedia signal generation support for MAC and PHY layers.
In addition, RFXpress has the ability to add impairments like time synchronized Gaussian noise at the WiMedia Packet level (Pre-amble, PPDU Header and PSDU), create tone nulling and introduce realistic interference to WiMedia waveforms from sources including WiFi (802.11a and MIMO), WiMAX and Radar.
Leading Test Bench for UWB WiMedia
Tektronix offers a leading Digital RF test bench for WiMedia and other UWB applications with an industry best combination of hardware and software. The new WiMedia MOI offers a step-by-step test methodology for the new Ultra-Wideband (UWB) WiMedia PHY Test Specification Version 1.2 release. For transmitter testing, UWB Analysis software combined with the DSA72004 oscilloscope offers the widest bandwidth, fastest rise time and lowest noise density that enables users to capture and analyze UWB signals with higher accuracy than competitive instruments. Additionally, the AWG7102 arbitrary waveform generator is the only instrument on the market today that can recreate both non-hopping (FFI) and hopping (TFI and TFI2) signals for WiMedia applications and develop and prepare for future device requirements for Detect and Avoid (DAA) technologies. RFXpress software on the AWG7102 enables engineers to create UWB signals quickly and easily to improve the reliability of their designs.

Tektronix Communications Adds Wireless Network Application to Network Optimization Suite of
RICHARDSON, Texas, June 17, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
Tektronix Communications, a leading worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics solutions, today announced the availability of automatic radio optimization, a new application that is part of OptiMon, the suite of advanced network optimization products based on Tektronix' Network and Service Analyzer (NSA) platform, widely adopted by wireless operators and manufacturers' professional services teams around the world.
The OptiMon solution comprises fully-automated software applications for a range of mobile networks and allows operators with 2G, 3G and WiMAX networks to identify in real-time the root cause of quality of service (QoS) issues by mapping service problems to underlying network problems.
The new features in the automatic radio optimization application are designed to improve productivity by allowing optimization engineers to increase the quality of experience of end users in less time and reduce overall operating expenses. With this new application, network optimization engineers will be able to focus on the most critical events and performance issues, saving a significant amount of time previously required for data analysis. Users will have complete visibility of Iub, Iu and Iur traffic at the RNC level, with easy access to critical radio network parameters, KPIs and trends with just the click of a button. The application provides fully automated intelligent support to decision making process as well as automated reporting and alarms based on triggers.
"Analyzing data for optimization is a critical component of managing networks for quality of service," said Martin Kuerzinger, General Manager Mobile Diagnostics and Optimization, Tektronix. "The OptiMon suite of solutions provides network engineers with unmatched tools necessary to truly ensure the quality and experience subscribers expect in today's competitive market. With the ability to identify and troubleshoot problems quickly, operators can improve QoS and enhance productivity by eliminating the enormous amount of time it typically takes to sift through large amounts of data and solve the other critical issues which are represented by the need to control and master the cost of quality."
The new application provides immediate visibility, information and reporting on critical areas including Over-provisioned and Missing Neighbors, Pilot Pollution, Ping-Pong handover and Sleeping Cells, allowing for quick detection and documentation of issues that may lead to QoS degradation or decreased ROI. Additionally, automatic triggers and alarms erase the need for continuous observation by sending users alarms via e-mail or short message service (SMS) if a pre-determined threshold is exceeded.
OptiMon includes Tektronix' industry-leading TrendNavigate and DT-Synergy optimization solutions that enable operators to identify trends and issues within the network and recognize where issues originate, determine root cause and provide actionable information. TrendNavigate is a KPI trend analysis tool that can improve UMTS Radio Access Network (UTRAN) performance optimization by providing high-level statistical analysis combined with drill-down cause analysis.
For further enhanced productivity, DT-Synergy, an advanced software application that enables correlation of drive test system data with protocol test data, allowing a significant visibility and efficiency gain for optimization engineers. The tools provide improved time-to-resolution for optimization campaigns through the concurrent analysis and comparison of uplink and downlink events and measurements provided by drive test and Protocol Analysis. This advanced application also allows increased efficiency by overcoming the typical shortcomings of a network optimization strategy based purely on drive test campaigns including lack of visibility on uplink activity, poor statistical relevance of data gathered and the high operating costs associated for each campaign.
