Tyco buys Cable Maker

Acquisitive Tyco International Ltd., the Hamilton, Bermuda-based conglomerate that already has bought AMP and Raychem this year, last week agreed to buy AFC Cable Systems Inc., a Providence, R.I. maker of prewired armor cable, in a $575 million deal. Memphis connector maker Thomas & Betts Corp.

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. began the immediate expansion of its Fab II semiconductor manufacturing facility in Round Rock, Texas. The company is adding 50 jobs to increase plant capacity by 25 percent in the next quarter.
