HSBC Bank (China) Co., Ltd., which is wholly owned by Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), yesterday joined the renminbi financial bonds underwriting group of Bank of Shanghai, becoming the first foreign lender that participates in such business in Mainland China.
Bank of Shanghai, as a top Chinese city commercial lender, aggregately issued renminbi financial bonds worth CNY 5 billion, and the interest rate of its three-year financial bonds valued at CNY 2 billion is fixed at 3.65. Total value of the five-year financial bonds reached CNY 3 billion, and the variable interest was 92 basis points higher than the current one-year time deposit interest rate.
HSBC Bank (China)'s entry into this renminbi financial bonds underwriting field can be regarded a landmark amid the Chinese financial market development, and the foreign bank would like to further build up its presence in such a market with high growth potential.
As one of the profitable foreign lenders in Mainland China, HSBC Bank (China) holds an 8% stake in Bank of Shanghai.
