Atheros Communications rallies on Piper Jaffray upgrade - Zibb.com

NEW YORK, Jun 30, 2008 (Thomson Financial via COMTEX) --

Shares of Atheros Communications rallied Monday after Piper Jaffray upgraded the semiconductor systems maker, citing indications of market share gains.

Analyst Auguste Richard raised his rating to buy from neutral, while keeping his price target at $34.

The stock was up 4.3% at $30.67. It had hit a 1 1/2-month low of $28.50 in intraday trading on Friday.

Richard said his research suggests the company had picked up more share at PC original equipment makers, and that the delay of Intel Corp.'s launch of Montevina is turning out to be a net positive for Atheros.

Atheros Communications Inc. (ATHR) opened at 28.72. So far today, the stock has hit a low of 28.58 and a high of 29.75. ATHR is now trading at 29.88, down 0.80 (-2.79%). The stock hit its 52 week high of 35.80 in November and set its 52 week low of 20.17 in March. ATHR dropped at the beginning of this year, but has been stronger since March. Atheros Communications reported yesterday evening a quarterly profit that topped analysts' forecast by a penny. However, ATHR shares have been falling after the company predicted sequentially lower gross margins for the third quarter. Technical indicators for the stock are bullish but deteriorating.
