open weave synthetic rugs?

We're finishing our basement in a quasi-industrial loft look. A mix of our homes simple 70 year old architecture along with the exposed rafters and steel beams. We went for a stained concrete floor that...well...didn't turn out quite as planned.

We are purchasing a multilevel home (actually 8 different living levels on 4 stories if that makes any sense.) The stairs that wind around to these various rooms, as well as part of each of the rooms, are wood floored.
