Before you begin converting your existing maps to Custom Maps, be sure to install the latest software for your device. Connect your outdoor handheld via USB and visit http://my.garmin.com for the fast and free software update. Once software has been updated, the simple steps can begin.

The first step to creating Custom Maps is to save your existing map in JPG format, either by scanning a paper map or converting a digital file. The second step is to georeference your new map image, which can be done easily by using Google Earth to line up key landmarks with those depicted on the map. The final step is to save your Custom Maps to your Garmin device and you're ready to go explore. The GPSMAP 7x15 series has a 15-inch diagonal XGA (1024 x 768 pixel) sunlight readable touch screen display in two models: the GPSMAP 7015 with a worldwide satellite imagery base map; and the GPSMAP 7215 with pre-loaded detailed US coastal and Explorer Charts for the Bahamas.

Both models have a PC monitor input as well as four composite video inputs for multimedia use and all models are optional wireless remote and a wireless mouse compatible for flexibility.

The GPSMAP 6x12 series features a traditional soft-key interface with an alphanumeric keypad and a 12-inch diagonal XGA (1024 x 768 pixel) sunlight readable display and the above mentioned features.

The GPSMAP 6000 and GPSMAP 7000 family of MFDs will be available in February 2010. Prices were not included.
