----------------------------------------------------------
BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- Level 3 Communications' (NASDAQ: LVLT) Business Markets Group today announced the company has rebuilt its Enterprise data network architecture, re-launching an MPLS-based wide area network (WAN) platform that enables true converged service offerings. Leveraging a unique combination of assets acquired over the last several years, Level 3's integrated platform provides enterprises a cost-effective, high-performance option that enables growth, with three multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) solutions now available on a single, highly stable and scalable platform. The new architecture enables delivery of Ethernet virtual private line (EVPL), virtual private LAN service (VPLS) and Internet protocol virtual private network (IPVPN) services across a single platform.
"Level 3's VPN portfolio has been rebuilt for delivery over a fully integrated platform, retaining best-of-breed elements from the assets and experience we've acquired and developed over the last several years," said Raouf Abdel, president of Level 3's Business Markets Group. "This major enhancement to our portfolio is in direct response to the demands of our enterprise customers for a simplified and flexible solution that encompasses secure private data networking, reliable access to the Internet and VoIP."
The improvements Level 3 has made to its Enterprise VPN portfolio include increased interoperability, a streamlined operating environment and a unified portfolio that includes not only the integrated VPN services, but Enterprise Voice, Dedicated Internet Access, Ethernet Access capabilities and Managed Services. In addition to platform and feature upgrades, Level 3 has also upgraded capabilities within its online customer portal. Customers can now enter trouble tickets, check order status and view network reporting online.
"Customers are already seeing the benefits of our service enhancements," said Abdel. "The simplified structure of our broadened service set provides greater simplicity for customers from quoting to provisioning. We are seeing increasing demand for extending services via Ethernet, and the interoperability of our services enables us to do that seamlessly."
"The use of MPLS technology in WAN applications provides better economics for enterprises, enabling multiple services over the same core," said Stan Hubbard, senior analyst for Heavy Reading. "With Level 3's unique combination of services on a common MPLS backbone, enterprises can choose their optimal WAN solution based on today's application requirements and security needs, but still retain the flexibility to easily migrate as their needs change. It's a service package that is easy to use, consistent and cost-effective."
