Starbucks Coffee Japan to raise prices - Zibb.com
Jul 08, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
Starbucks Coffee Japan has said that it will increase the prices of some of its products, according to Japan Corporate News Network. This hike reflects a rise in the prices of certain ingredients and transportation costs.
Effective July 16, 2008, the company will hike the prices of some 20 coffee beverages and five coffee bean products. The prices of drinks are to go up by about JPY10 to JPY30, whereas coffee bean prices will be hiked by JPY100 for a pack of 250 grams.
Starbucks Coffee Japan officials maintained that fluctuations in international market prices of coffee beans have not affected the company as it buys coffee beans directly from contracted farmers.

Starbucks Slashed Quarterly, 2008 Profit Forecast, Blames Mortgage Meltdown - Zibb.com
Apr 24, 2008 (financialwire.net via COMTEX) --
April 24, 2008 (FinancialWire) Starbucks Corp. (NASDAQ: SBUX) has slashed its quarterly and 2008 profit forecast below Wall Street expectations due to the mortgage meltdown and has said that it faces the weakest economic environment in its history.
Starbucks long considered itself virtually immune to economic swings, but has admitted in recent months that some consumers have avoided its premium coffee as the economy soured.
Fewer customers at U.S. stores triggered a mid-single-digit decline in sales at established stores. The company said that California and Florida markets, which account for about one-third of its U.S. retail revenue, have been hard hit by the downturn in the U.S. housing market.
Given the continued weakness in the U.S. economy, the company warned that fiscal 2008 earnings per share would be "somewhat lower" than the 87 cents it reported in fiscal 2007, while analysts were looking for a profit of 97 cents per share for the current fiscal year.
Shares of Starbucks fell to $15.69 in extended trading, after closing up 15 cents at $17.85.
