Telefonica has selected Nokia Siemens Networks for LTE trials to be developed in the Czech Republic. As part of the six-month trial, Nokia Siemens will deploy its LTE technology, based on the Evolved Packet Core and the Flexi Base Station. In September Telefonica announced plans to test LTE in six different countries, with six suppliers.

Sierra Wireless has launched its Wireless AirCard USB 307 modem in Spain on Telefonica's new HSPA+ mobile broadband network. Initially available in Madrid and Barcelona, Telefonica will expand HSPA+ support to cover about 78 percent of the population by end-2010. Sierra Wireless' AirCard USB 307 modem supports download speeds of up to 21 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.76 Mbps on the 900 and 2100 MHz HSPA bands commonly used in Europe. It can also roam globally on UMTS and GSM/EDGE networks, targeting mobile professionals who need high-speed internet access in a variety of worldwide locations. The Sierra Wireless AirCard USB 307 is available at Telefonica stores for EUR 19, along with a flat-rate tariff plan of EUR 49 per month.

The network will also provide toll-quality telephony to rural populations, enabling them to stay in touch with friends and family worldwide.
