Toshiba America Medical Systems announced it has introduced the Toshiba Assurance Refurbishment Program to provide customers the ability to purchase previously owned, completely refurbished Toshiba systems.
The first line of Toshiba products available through the program are Aquilion CT systems. To support this program, Toshiba said it has opened a new Quality Assurance Center in Irvine, Calif.
"Toshiba is dedicated to providing customers with the most value for their budget," said Ted Nemetz, VP, Service Business Unit, Toshiba. "The Aquilion Assurance Program does just that - allows customers to acquire the service and performance Toshiba is known for, at a price that meets their facility's needs."
A refurbished CT system from Toshiba is held to the same quality and performance standards as a brand-new Toshiba CT system. Previously owned Toshiba CT systems are inspected at the Quality Assurance Center, where a team of experts evaluate and test all moving parts and programs. After the system has been inspected, new parts are installed and upgraded, including crucial items like the X-ray tube, and new software is installed. The system is then repainted, relabeled and placed in new packaging. Before a system leaves the Quality Assurance Center, it is tested against Toshiba's original factory standards.
According to Toshiba, the Aquilion Assurance Program is for health care facilities looking to acquire diagnostic imaging equipment, but may not have the capital to purchase a brand-new system. Existing customers can trade in an Aquilion 8-, 16-, 32- or 64-detector row system for credit towards a refurbished CT system. Customers also have the option to acquire a new Service contract with the purchase of a refurbished CT system.

Sonics, Inc., a supplier of intelligent on-chip communications solutions, said that Toshiba has licensed SonicsSX, an on-chip network, targeted at video-based SoCs (system-on-chips).
"Sonics is a valued partner and its on-chip network expertise has been key to our next-generation SoC design initiatives," said Takashi Yoshimori, Assistant Chief Technology Executive of SoC Design/Application. "During our long-standing partnership, Sonics' support of our system LSI programs has been invaluable. Sonics SoC solutions helped us achieve the performance goals for our video-intensive applications."
"As a provider of digital consumer products, Toshiba understands the advantage of using an SoC platform that provides performance, ease-of-integration, time-to-market benefits and true IP reuse," said Jack Browne, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing at Sonics. "We look forward to our continued collaboration as Toshiba expands its home entertainment developments around the globe."
First introduced in July 2008, SonicsSX accelerates video performance and eases global integration of IP cores and subsystems onto a single chip. To address increased processing for HD video, SonicsSX offers network-on-chip (NoC) capabilities for higher operating clock frequencies, native support for 2D data transactions and an expanded data bus width to 256 bits. It also contains Sonics' Interleaved Multichannel Technology (IMT), enabling SoC architectures to transition from single to multiple DRAM channels, or multichannel, while automatically balancing the traffic among the channels.
SonicsSX has built-in security features that provide protection for digital media and its low-power circuitry ensures extremely low active power for mobile battery-powered applications.
The SonicsStudio Development Environment supports SonicsSX for SoC architecture and performance analysis. Developers have the advantage of completing data flow analysis during the architecture phase of product development rather than in later stages of product completion. This provides integration with software and shorter overall product development schedules.

PinnacleHealth said that it has installed Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc.'s Aquilion Premium multi-detector CT at its Community Campus to enable them to meet these needs while improving patient care.
In a release, the Company noted that the Aquilion Premium features 160 detector rows to image up to eight cm of anatomy in a single gantry rotation (as fast as 0.35 seconds).
PinnacleHealth said that it will use the Aquilion Premium at its Community Campus, making them the first hospital in the country offering this advanced technology. The Community Campus, while offering a complete range of services, specializes in neurology, rehabilitation, orthopedics and general surgery. It is home to an acute care hospital, rehabilitation hospital and new Regional Cancer Center opening in 2010.
"The Aquilion Premium allows patients to be imaged with low radiation and little-to-no sedation, which is particularly important when imaging pediatric populations or patients of any age who might require sequential, follow up CT scans," said Dr. Brian Harris, medical chair, Department of Imaging, PinnacleHealth. "Another significant benefit of the Aquilion Premium is its spectacular image quality and ability to reconstruct images to be viewed in multiple planes, including 3D."
"Toshiba is committed to listening to its customers and providing the right technology mix for the community," said Doug Ryan, senior director, CT Business Unit, Toshiba. "Toshiba developed the Aquilion Premium to meet the ever-changing imaging needs of the medical community by making it field upgradable to the Aquilion ONE, enabling them to have access to advanced technology today, while allowing physicians and administrators to plan for their future needs."
PinnacleHealth is a non-profit healthcare system serving Central Pennsylvania.
