Onderzoek van het Georgia Institute of Technology heeft aangetoond dat het vervangen van soldeerverbindingen tussen bijvoorbeeld ICs en printplaten door zuiver koper sterkere verbindingen mogelijk maakt. Bovendien kunnen hiermee meer verbindingen per oppervlakte-eenheid worden gerealiseerd.
