The Toronto festival organizers have announced two new Indian titles - Director Priyadarshan's period drama 'KANCHIVARAM' and Nandita Das's 'FIRAAQ' to feature at the 33rd Toronto International Film Festival to be held from Sep 4- 13, 2008.

KANCHIVARAM has been chosen for the category, 'Special Presentation - World Premiere' while FIRAAQ has been chosen and showcased in the category of 'Contemporary World Cinema - World Premiere'.

Mr. Shailendra Singh, JT Managing Director, Percept Ltd, "Only two Indian films have been selected by the festival and both are produced by us. It has been a little dry for Indian films at the various international film festivals over the past few years. We at Percept Picture Company believe in promoting good content and Firaaq and Kanchivaram are such projects."

This is a huge boost for Indian Cinema as Percept Picture Company will represent India and create history with 2 of its films being featured in a single year.

Vengadam is a born optimist and weaver of saris, but his lowly status means he can never afford the fashions he creates. At the birth of his daughter he pledges to wrap her in the finest silk on the day of her wedding, dismaying his community who believe that, if such a promise is not fulfilled, a curse will follow. Desperate to keep his word, he steals a thread of silk each day, weaving secretly each night. But when his access to the silk is jeopardized, Vengadam must find a way to keep from breaking his promise.
