For more than 40 years, SER has played a key role in the nation's workforce investment system, and is today recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor as the premier community-based organization serving the employment needs of the Hispanic community. According to the May 2008 edition of Hispanic Business magazine, SER-Jobs for Progress is the 12th largest Hispanic nonprofit organization in the country.

In addition to offering practical training during the conference, SER will recognize three of its most successful affiliates -- Fresno SER-Jobs for Progress, SER-Jobs for Progress San Antonio, and Central States SER of Chicago -- as well as three corporations for their continued support of SER-Jobs for Progress National, Inc. and its programs.

-- Chrysler Corporation made possible the launch of SER Progreso, a program that bridges financial and technological divides for Latino families in California, Colorado, Florida and Texas.

-- The Home Depot, which has signed a formal partnership agreement with SER to increase the number of bilingual or Spanish-speaking employees in the stores nationwide and to provide job opportunities for older workers trained by SER in customer service.

-- IBM grants have made possible several programs of great benefit to the community: Traducelo Ahora, an instantaneous translation for webpages; Reading Companion, software that helps U.S. residents learn to read English and corrects them discreetly through headphones; and Accessibility Works, a program to help seniors use a mouse and read webpages so they have access to the Internet; among others.

"The contributions of out corporate partners are incalculable," said SER President and CEO Ignacio Salazar. "Not only do they bring their vast business experience and knowledge to the table by participating on our board of directors, but they also are enthusiastic supporters of our innovative job training programs.
