"Israel's Economic Independence has Always Been Heavily Dependent on 'Blue & White' Industry in the
TEL-AVIV, Israel, August 18, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ --
A special ceremony to recognize and honor "The Defenders of Industry in the Negev" was held recently in Kibbutz Mishmar HaNegev in Israel, in the presence of Eli Yishai, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor; Jacob Edery, Minister of Development of the Negev and Galil; Yehuda Segev, Director General of the Manufacturers' Association of Israel; and other distinguished guests.
(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080818/317378 )
The ceremony was held in conjunction with the launch of the "60 Years of Industry of the Negev" Album, which tells the story of the industries and the industrialists of the Negev from Israel's inception until today.
Amongst the 12 honorees was the leading textile industrialist, Gary Heiman, President & CEO of "Standard Textile Co., Inc." and Founder of "Arad Textile Industries". Heiman stated that he considers it a great honor to be included in this prestigious landmark occasion alongside all past generations of industrial pioneers: "Israel's economic independence has always been heavily dependent on "Blue & White" industry in the peripheral areas of the country. This is the reality of the past and it is up to all of us to assure it's continuation in the future." Heiman thanked his employees and management saying that without their devoted work and accomplishments, he could never have achieved the honor that had been bestowed upon him.
Heiman's fellow honorees included: Industrialist Stef Wertheimer, Founder of Iscar Group; Uri Verber, Founder of Netafim; Abraham Seroussi, former CEO of Israel Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC); Eli Hurvitz, Chairman of the Board of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries; Avraham (Bondi) Livnat, Founder and CEO of Taavura; Dr. Felix Zandman, Chairman and CEO of Vishay; Meir Dor, Founder of Baran Group; Dan Proper, Chairman of Osem; Akiva Mozes, CEO of ICL Fertilizers; Zvi Zur, one of the founders of Makhteshim; Arie (Lova) Eliav, educator and writer - all of whom share a mutual ongoing involvement and commitment to the industry of the Negev and who made a significant contribution to its development and consolidation.
Standard Textile, which was founded in 1940 by Gary's grandfather, is the world's largest, vertically integrated manufacturer and distributor of institutional textiles and apparel. The company has 23 production facilities in 13 countries around the world, customers in over 60 countries and annual revenues of approximately $650 million. "Arad Textile Industries, a division of Standard Textile, is the largest terry towel manufacturer in the Middle East and Europe, providing towels to the healthcare, hospitality, institutional and private sectors. The company produces approximately 70 million towels annually, with sales revenue totaling about $120 million. Ninety-five percent (95%) of its products are exported, mainly to Europe and the United States. Amongst Arad Textile Industries' customers are major U.S. hotel chains such as Marriott, Starwood, Gaylord, high-end Las Vegas casino hotels, the French hotel chain Accor and most of Europe's large industrial laundries, which provide towels for hotels and health care facilities. Over 800 employees are employed in the company's manufacturing plants located across Israel.
Gary, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, came to Israel in early 1973 as a volunteer; at the outbreak of the Yom Kippur War, he immediately volunteered for military service in the Golan Heights. Later on, he went on to serve in the elite Special Forces Search and Rescue unit of the Israel Air Force. With a desire to strengthen the economic independence of the state of Israel and his belief in the importance of industry in the periphery of the young state, Heiman established "Arad Textile Industries" in 1975.
"Israel's textile industry is currently facing its most difficult period in its history. Long standing textile plants are closing down, experienced and qualified employees from the industry are finding themselves without work, and, due to the fact that most of the products produced by the domestic factories are earmarked for export, the low dollar/shekel exchange rate is exacerbating the decline of the financial stability of industry," commented Heiman. Despite this, Heiman believes this is the time to strengthen Israeli traditional industry and to strive to realize its inherent relative advantages which are largely based on its creative, experienced, skilled, innovative and diligent human resources. He is a strong advocate of the belief that unwavering determination as well as responsible and wise economic policies is the key to success.
In direct relation to this commitment, Gary will be chairing the 2008 Jewish Agency "Business-to-Business" sub-track at the Globes Business Conference in Tel Aviv in December. The Globes business conference is one of Israel's most prestigious financial events of the year and a magnet for more than 3,000 business leaders. The Jewish Agency gathering is where Israeli and overseas business leaders join forces in order to share their ideas and visions, to debate questions of policy, advocacy, and social venturing and to explore the possibilities to advance the Israeli and global Jewish agenda. Heiman: "We believe that in these particularly precarious times, we, as Jewish leaders, have an even greater role to play in helping secure the economic future of Israel and of our own communities. It is critical that we bring together Israeli and Diaspora business leaders in order to find the most effective ways to work together to ultimately strengthen the Jewish collective - for one common future."

Deep Breeze Announces Latest Study Results on Vibration Response Imaging (VRI(TM) at the 18th
BERLIN, Oct 03, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Deep Breeze Ltd, the innovator of the revolutionary pulmonary imaging technology, vibration response imaging (VRI(TM), today announced the latest study results comparing VRI(TM) to conventional procedures of assessing regional lung function measurement. Prof. Roberto Bossi, Chief of Center of Sleep respiratory disorders of Foundation IRCCS Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico University of Milano, presented his findings today at the 18th European Respiratory Society Congress, Session 57 (New challenges and maintained quality: lung function for the future), Berlin Room. The study measured the effectiveness of VRI(TM) for the evaluation of lung function compared to functional respiratory tests, before and after thoracic surgery. Data showed that VRI allows better evaluation of lung volume regional variations after chest lobectomy compared to functional respiratory tests. "The advantages having a non invasive, patient's effort independent, easy to handle and readily available imaging modality for pulmonology are numerous," said Prof. Bossi. He goes on to say: "A big benefit is that I can monitor and measure the gain or loss of lung function after chest surgery better than functional respiratory test."
In addition Deep Breeze has launched a strategic program to include the VRIxp(TM) as an integral part of the guidelines for physiologic evaluation of patients with lung cancer being considered for resectional surgery. The feasibility of this program is currently being investigated by MD Anderson, and the leading investigator of this program Prof. Rodolfo Morice had this to add: "Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the USA and the world and surgery remains the best treatment option for patients with this condition. Predictions of postoperative lung function are crucial to maximize the number of patients that can benefit from surgery and identify patients with such poor respiratory reserve that lung resection would result in an unacceptable quality of life. These preoperative evaluations currently require radionuclide tests of ventilation and perfusion that require administration of radioactive isotopes and not always readily available." The company is planning to market the VRIxp(TM) across Europe to Hospitals which conduct lung resection for patients with lung cancer. The initial launch happened in Spain in September and the company will expand their activities to other European countries by the end of 2008.
Results of an additional study that was conducted in a University department at the Asthma and Allergy Center of the Pulmonary Unit in Evgenidio Hospital, in Athens Medical School in Greece will also be presented by Prof. Christina Gratziou at the Congress, on Monday the 6th of October, Europa Room 2, Session 189 (New frontiers in noninvasive assessment of the lungs) at 10:15am. The purpose of this study was to establish whether or not the VRIxp(TM) has a role to play in the early detection of airway obstruction in smokers. The study population consisted of 25 healthy smokers, 23 known COPD patients & 10 healthy non-smokers. The initial findings of the study showed that in 95.7% of known COPD patients showed dynamic disturbances in their VRIxp(TM) image. Furthermore 64% of "healthy smokers" demonstrated abnormalities in their VRIxp(TM) image. Prof. Gratziou declared that "The initial findings of our study on a small population of 58 smoker subjects, is indicative of a potential role of the VRIxp(TM) as a screening tool of early detection of abnormalities due to smoking exposure. Smoker subjects can be monitored unlimitedly with documentable results that can be analyzed and given as a written report. Thus, the VRIxp(TM) can be useful also as an effective tool to educate patients on the harmful effects of smoking and furthermore to enhance motivation for quitting tobacco use".
About VRIxp(TM)
The VRIxp(TM) system is based on Vibration Response generated by the air passing through the lungs. The system records these vibrations and then uses an algorithm to convert the data into images. Changes in tissue composition or alteration in airflow impact how sounds within the lungs vibrate, and subsequently how the VRIxp(TM) images appear on the system's computer screen. The result offers physicians a dynamic functional lung image obtained passively at the bedside, & without radiation. The Quantitative Lung Data (QLD) results provide an immediate regional assessment of right and left function by quantifying vibration distribution. Patient records and results are documented in the systems' database for future use. 6,000 Patients have been recorded by the VRIxp(TM) worldwide during clinical investigations without any single adverse event.
The newly appointed CEO of Deep Breeze, Dr. Miki Nagler had this to say: "The results of our extensive clinical investigations being conducted worldwide, is a small indication of the clinical value that our technology holds for a broad line of pulmonary indications. We are now focusing our efforts not only specific markets, but also to create a valid clinical paradigm in which our technology will be applied in a number of clinical applications."
