SAATCHI & SAATCHI Almost everyone had written Saatchi & Saatchi off at the end of 2003, and according to CEO Andrew Stone, while some of it related to the “tall poppy” syndrome, some of the criticism was also justified.

Contaminated soil to be treated with new technology - Zibb.com

? A seminar introducing mechano-chemical destruction (MCD) technology to destroy dioxins and other chemicals in soil was held in Hanoi on Oct. 2, attracting the participation of domestic and foreign scientists.

At the seminar, Dr. John Robertson from New Zealand?s Auckland University of Technology introduced the MCD technology as an emerging technology for the destruction of a range of difficult-to-eradicate organic toxins, including dioxins such as AO.

During the Vietnam war, the American army used five southern and central airports, namely Da Nang, Bien Hoa, Phu Cat, Tan Son Nhat and Nha Trang, to store dioxins that were subsequently sprayed in Vietnam.

A survey has revealed that Bien Hoa, Da Nang and Phu Cat each has between 40,000-90,000 cu.m of soil which is contaminated with dioxins.

The dioxin levels in areas surrounding the Bien Hoa airport were measured and found to be 7 times higher than the accepted norm.

The Ministry of Defence is carrying out a project to treat polluted soil areas at the Bien Hoa airport using 75 billion VND (4.54 million USD) in funds allocated from the State budget. The project is expected to finish in late 2009.

Jumbo Reverse Mortgages: The Great Disappearing Act of 2008 - Zibb.com

For anyone keeping score, the list of mortgage products that have disappeared over the past 24 months is long indeed. That trend has showed few signs of abating in 2008, with jumbo reverse mortgages among the latest casualties to face Wall Street's waning appetite for mortgage-related products, particularly in high-value states with declining markets like California, Florida, Massachusetts and more.

REX & Co., a real estate investment company dedicated to creating safe alternatives to debt financing, announced today a toll-free phone line to help homeowners in high home value markets discover the benefits of accessing their home equity with a REX(TM) Agreement. Homeowners considering a reverse mortgage -- especially those homeowners exceeding the new Federal Housing Administration (FHA) defined HECM reverse home value limit of $417,000 and greater -- are invited to call 866-722-3910 to learn more.

The REX Agreement, available in 13 states nationwide, allows homeowners to access their equity without ever incurring debt, interest or monthly payments. With the REX Agreement, homeowners can convert a portion of their home's value into cash now in exchange for granting REX & Co. a portion of the future increase or decrease in the home's value when they sell or decide to end the Agreement. The arrangement applies only to the future change in value. Homeowners retain 100% of the equity they have already built up in the home.

"Responsible homeowners have worked hard to build equity in their homes. Now, homeowners have a choice when it comes to accessing that equity to reduce debts, make home improvements, supplement their retirement needs, buy long-term care insurance or for any other use," said Tjarko Leifer, managing director at REX & Co. "The REX Agreement gives homeowners a large, lump-sum cash advance to use anyway they wish with no interest charges to erode their existing equity and no monthly payments to burden their budget."

To qualify for a REX Agreement, homeowners must reside in an owner-occupied, single-family detached home and have a history of financial responsibility, good credit, and at least 25 percent equity in their home. There are no restrictions on how the money can be used and, unlike reverse mortgages, no age restrictions to qualify.

"As jumbo reverse products like Financial Freedom's Cash Account and others are being suspended due to secondary market conditions, the REX Agreement has emerged as a reliable, alternative way for mature homeowners with high home values to access cash," commented John Yedinak, publisher of the widely respected website Reverse Mortgage Daily.

While both products allow homeowners to tap their equity without having to make monthly payments, the REX Agreement doesn't cap the home's market value when determining the cash advance potential or face the short-term guideline changes that can adversely limit how homeowners qualify one day to the next for the few jumbo products still available in the market.

"As health care and other costs continue to escalate, there is little doubt that 'house-rich' homeowners heading into retirement will choose to tap the equity in their home as part of a well-thought-out financial plan," continued Mr. Leifer. "An interest-free, monthly payment-free REX Agreement that preserves the homeowner's existing equity can often play an important role in that financial plan. At REX & Co., we're working hard to bring our fresh approach and innovative debt-free alternative to millions of responsible homeowners nationwide."

Homeowners interested in a REX Agreement can learn more or apply online at http://www.RexAgreement.com, or by calling 866-722-3910.

Marking marketing education - Zibb.com

New Zealand's marketing education courses are not necessarily preparing graduates for the complexity of the market. In order to make marketing education more relevant, educators are advised to adopt a marketplace teaching model. Roger Marshall, professor and chair of marketing at the AUT University, says several factors make the market more complicated, including the growing sophistication of consumers, their rising expectations, and new technologies.

Gamblers 'ashamed to seek help' - Zibb.com

Gamblers often wait until it's too late to seek help as feelings of shame and denial actually hold them back, a new study has revealed.

Researchers in Australia have found that the main motivation for gamblers to seek professional help is a crisis event involving financial loss or hardship and accompanied by significant psychological distress.

"But the main barriers to seeking help are feelings of pride, shame and problem denial," according to lead researcher Dr Maria Bellringer.

A secondary group of barriers include lack of knowledge of what specialist services were available; lack of understanding of the treatment process; and in some cases, wariness about seeking any kind of professional help because of a previous negative experience.

The researchers at Auckland University of Technology have based their findings on an analysis of interviews of 300 people, including some regular gamblers.

"We found that people're not accessing help until they face a crisis -- a point which is too far down the line and an unnecessary delay. It shows we need to be encouraging gamblers to go for help earlier in their journey.

"There are many people out there still suffering who haven't yet reached traumatic or critical point or are flying under the radar of raising major concerns. The study suggests need to increase awareness of what services are available to problem gamblers and make early help services more accessible.

"It also suggests we need to raise awareness amongst family, friends and non-specialist health professionals so that they can encourage people to seek help earlier, before a crisis point," Dr Bellringer said.
