Shanghai, Shenzhen B-share Markets Plunged on Oct. 16 - Zibb.com
SHANGHAI, Oct 20, 2008 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --
On the sharp decline of overnight US stock market, the US dollar- and Hong Kong dollar-denominated B-share indexes on Shanghai and Shenzhen bourses plummeted but trading value swelled on October 16.
SSE (Shanghai Stock Exchange) B Share Index opened at 108.51, the highest intraday, and closed at 103.29, tumbling 7.90 points or 7.10 percent. The index once slid to 103.25 at the lowest during the full-day trading.
SSE (Shenzhen Stock Exchange) B Share Index opened at 261.77 and ended at 255.07, diving 13.45 points or 5.01 percent. The highest and lowest intraday were 261.77 and 253.85 respectively.
The turnover of B-share stocks on the two exchanges reached USD 127 million and HKD 130 million, expanding 72 percent from USD 74 million and 51 percent from HKD 86 million on the prior trading day separately.
Almost all B-share stocks on both bourses closed down. Only Shanghai Nine Dragon Company (SHSE: 900955) and Shenzhen International Enterprise Company (SZSE: 200056) closed up on the day.
