NOTICE TEXT: Department of Veterans Affairs VA Boston Healthcare System Department of Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System The Department of Veterans, VA Boston Healthcare System, has a requirementfor vendor, Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc., to provide parts and labor required to provide the Gold contract service level coverage on the Siemens 3T MRI system located at the Jamaica Plain campus, 150 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130. It is the Governments intention to solicit and negotiate only with this source. Please refer to the Sole Source Justification. This is not a solicitation; it is notice of intent to sole source a requirement. Also this notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. No solicitation document is available and telephone requests will not be accepted. However, any firm that believes it can meet these requirements may give written notification to the Contracting Officer within seven (5) calendar days from the date of publication of this synopsis. Supporting evidence must be furnished in sufficient detail, to demonstrate the ability to comply with the above requirements. This information can be faxed to Christine Gorman at 774-826-3347. Responses will be evaluated; however, a determination by the Government not to compete the proposed procurement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Inquires/information received after established deadline of Friday, November 7, 2008 16:00 EST shall not be considered. The submission of any data for review shall not impede award of this contract as planned. The Government does not intend to pay for information solicited. Identification of the service/department and the transaction/requisition #: VA Boston Healthcare System: Radiology, 150 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130. *2. Nature and/or description of the action being approved: Preventive maintenance inspections and repair services (including parts and extended service hours) to maintain the Siemens Trio MRI and Chiller system. *3. Description of the supplies/services required to meet the Agencys needs (including the estimated value): Parts and labor to maintain and repair MRI and chiller unit. Estimated value: $144,891.01 for the Base Year from November 14, 2008 to September 30, 2009. 4. Identification of the statutory authority permitting other than full and open competition: Far part 6.302-1 Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements. *5. Demonstration that the proposed contractors unique qualifications or the nature of the acquisition requires use of the authority cited: Contractor is the original equipment manufacturer and all parts are proprietary. No commonly available parts are available from outside the company. The company is the only source for OEM parts, software and services. *6. Describe the efforts that have been made to ensure that offers are solicited from as many potential sources as is practicable, including whether a Commerce Business Daily notice was or will be publicized as required by Subpart 5.2 (copy attached) and, if not, which exception under 5.202 applies: Parts are propriety, not available from other sources. 7. Determination by the Contracting Officer that the anticipated cost to the Government will be fair and reasonable: The anticipated cost is fair and reasonable to the Government. *8. Description of the market survey that was conducted (i.e. names of firms and the date(s) the firms were contacted) and the results or a statement of the reasons a market survey was not conducted: The original MRI was purchased from Siemens so they are the vendor that has access to original equipment and parts. The original warranty of the machine just expired. *9. Any other facts supporting the use of other than full and open competition, such as an explanation as to why technical data packages, specifications, engineering descriptions, statement of work, or purchase descriptions suitable for competition have not been developed or are not available. Repair parts are extremely expensive for this unit. If the system is not maintain and calibrated at regular intervals, extensive repairs will result. All parts and major assemblies will be covered by this contract. The company is the only source for OEM parts, software and services. *10. A listing of the sources, if any, that expressed an interest in the acquisition: None to date. *11. A statement of the actions, if any, that the department/service may take to remove or overcome any barriers to competition before any subsequent acquisition for the supplies/services is required in the future: Contracting Activity will continue to encourage full and open competition whenever possible.

BSD Medical to collaborate with GE Medical Systems - Zibb.com

BSD Medical has agreed to collaborate with GE Medical Systems in the integration of BSD Medical's premier cancer treatment system with a GE magnetic resonance imaging system.
The new system to be installed at Duke University will provide magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) monitoring of cancer treatments in progress as delivered by a BSD Medical system.
This is said to be the first collaborative engineering effort between GE and BSD Medical. BSD Medical has also worked with Siemens Medical Systems in prior integrations for MRI monitoring of cancer treatments with BSD Medical's systems.
The BSD-2000/3D/MR is a hybrid integration of a BSD-2000/3D cancer treatment system with a MRI system used to visually monitor deep thermal therapy cancer treatments in progress with thermal imaging through MR-tomography.
