West End Rain Man Delays Opening

The stage version of the 1988 Oscar-winning film "Rain Man," which began performances at the West End's Apollo Theatre Aug. 28, has announced that it will push back its official opening from the originally scheduled Sept. 9 to Sept. 19. Previews will continue in the meantime.

UA Makes McQuarrie a Force for 'CHAMPIONS' and 'MONSTER' - Zibb.com

United Artists Entertainment has announced that Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) will write and produce THE CHAMPIONS and THE MONSTER OF FLORENCE. Tom Cruise praised McQuarrie saying, "Chris is a remarkable talent who always brings a valuable perspective to the table. We are thrilled to be working with him on both projects." On 'MONSTER' McQuarrie is teamed with producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen. Together they optioned 'MONSTER' based on an excerpt from the book in 2006. The book eventually rose to #3 on the New York Times Best-seller list for non-fiction.
THE MONSTER OF FLORENCE concerns a true series of incredible events from author Douglas Preston's life. Shortly after moving his family to Italy in 2000, Preston learned that an olive grove on their property had been the scene of a brutal murder. Teaming with Italian journalist Mario Spezi, Preston began investigating the crime, which was part of a series of eight double homicides between 1968-1985. The pair became embroiled in a web of intrigue that grew all the more sinister when they themselves were implicated by the authorities for the slayings.
McQuarrie sees the film as an opportunity to tell the story of a writer, not a serial killer. "THE MONSTER OF FLORENCE is a surreal account of two writers opening a proverbial Pandora's box with their research. They witness first hand how the misguided good intentions of others allow evil to flourish, eventually becoming a part of the story themselves."
Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen are the Academy Award (C) winning producers of "American Beauty" as well as the upcoming "Milk."
United Artists Chief Operating Officer, Elliott Kleinberg, echoed Cruise's enthusiasm for both projects; "Chris McQuarrie is a uniquely gifted artist. We look forward to continuing our long and productive partnership with Chris."
McQuarrie is writing THE CHAMPIONS with fellow writer/producer Guillermo del Toro. Based on the 1968-69 British TV series, THE CHAMPIONS follows the adventures of a team of secret government agents who are rescued from a Himalayan plane crash by an advanced civilization and given superhuman abilities. A lifelong fan of the original television series, United Artists President of Production, Don Granger, observed, "THE CHAMPIONS is not just a strong concept with serious franchise potential, we believe that with Chris and Guillermo's combined creative vision it can be an incredibly original film." Chris McQuarrie felt the source material was too strong and the opportunity to work with Del Toro too great to pass up. Adding another installment to one of the most enduring marketing collaborations in motion picture history, Champagne Bollinger will partner with QUANTUM OF SOLACE, the James Bond adventure releasing in theatres worldwide November 2008.
The partnership marks the 11th Bond film in which Champagne Bollinger has been featured as 007's Champagne of choice, beginning with Moonraker in 1979.

New Pink Panther & Pals Series to Air Worldwide on Cartoon Network Fall 2009 - Zibb.com

Turner Broadcasting and MGM Worldwide Television (MGM), announced today that they are producing a new 26 episode half-hour animated series for MGM's much-loved Pink Panther franchise to air on Cartoon Network channels worldwide in Fall 2009.

The show is being produced jointly by MGM and Rubicon, Jordan's pioneering animation, edutainment and multimedia company. Production of the series is currently taking place in both Los Angeles and Amman, Jordan.
"The Pink Panther character is iconic and instantly recognized around the globe," said Gary Marenzi, Co-President, MGM Worldwide Television. "In addition to Cartoon Network's interest in the series, international buyers have been especially eager for us to produce another Pink Panther series and we are happy to partner with Rubicon on meeting the worldwide demand with this new series."
"Pink Panther & Pals" is a 26 episode animated TV series featuring the Pink Panther as a rambunctious teenager who, along with his friends, gets into all sorts of mischievous capers and hilarious escapades.
"The character is drawn a little younger to depict the Pink Panther as a teenager, although he will be instantly recognizable with his signature walk and devil-may-care attitude," said David Corbett, Executive Producer.
Favorite characters from the original series such as Ant and Aardvark and new characters Hoarse and Dog join the Pink Panther in his daily adventures. In every episode the Pink Panther will interact with his pompous and problematic arch-nemesis Big Nose -- who always tries to spoil the party and stop the Pink Panther from doing what he does best -- having fun.
The musical score and comedy themes will be reprised from the original Pink Panther theatrical shorts and TV series and will be familiar and recognizable to legions of Pink Panther fans the world over.
MGM plans to support the new "Pink Panther & Pals" show with a dedicated licensing and merchandising initiative targeting licensed apparel, stationery and back to school toys, publishing and interactive games. The retail launch of licensed merchandise is targeted for late 2009.
