New York Times-Acclaimed Documentary Filmmaker Keir Moreano Premieres Unspooled in NYC - Zibb.com

Necessary Nomad Films, a Los Angeles-based production company, today announces the world premiere theatrical release of "Unspooled," the second documentary feature produced and directed by New York Times-acclaimed filmmaker Keir Moreano. "Unspooled," which opens for an exclusive one-week engagement at the Pioneer Theater in Manhattan, screens Friday, September 26, through Thursday, October 2.

"'Unspooled' speaks to anyone, young or mature, amateur or professional, who's ever dreamed of making a movie, especially the YouTube generation," states Moreano. "'Unspooled' is the ecstasy, madness, and heartbreak of filmmaking."

"Unspooled" tells the fateful tale of Maurice Singer, a gifted and promising New York University film school director. NYU Film, which boasts among its alumni Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee, is extremely competitive, where only a few aspiring directors earn the privilege of producing anything more than ambitious shorts during their four years. In contrast, Maurice Singer's student project, a psychosexual thriller he freely adapted from the Little Red Riding Hood folktale, featured professional talent, over a million dollars in equipment, and was shot on 35-mm film, all comparative luxuries. Singer's production also enjoyed a sizable budget, while his script called for the pyrotechnic destruction of a Vermont winter cabin, each provided courtesy of Singer's dad.

Keir Moreano, just 26, whose first documentary, the critically praised "As the Call, So the Echo," was picked up by Cinetic Media, was Singer's NYU film classmate, two years behind him. Moreano enlisted as an unpaid special effects make-up artist on the upperclassman's movie. However, the future filmmaker, who toted a video camera on set, discovered in the experience a tragicomedy for cinephiles replete with themes of ambition, obsession, and hubris. The shocking and hilarious final act twist of fate that befalls Singer and his movie would make Sophocles shriek. "Unspooled" features Moreano's behind-the-scenes video, 'making-of' genre interviews with cast and crew, and the Singer film's dailies.

Necessary Nomad Films, a Los Angeles-based production company, produces documentary, television commercial spot, and other programming. For more information on filmmaker Keir Moreano and the film "Unspooled," visit Unspooled.com, or Necessarynomads.com.
